  William and Rebecca Jacobs brought up Alfred Evans Smith Johnston (my Grandfather)  and they are the connection between the Jacob and Johnston families

 


1. Andrew Jacobs born 1774

 and christened on 20th November 1774 in Clanfield.

Married on 18th April 1799 to Susanna Hutchins born 1777 and christened on 16th October 1777 in Sidlesham, Sussex.

Her parents were William Hutchins and Ann Barber. They married 15th July 1773 in Sidlesham, Sussex.

1.William Jacobs born 1799 and christened on 13th October 1799 in Havant, Hampshire.


2. Andrew Jacobs  born 1801 and christened on 15th November 1801 in Havant, Hampshire. He married on 2nd November 1823 in Havant to Phillis Palmer born about1791 in Havant, Hampshire .

3.Mary Jacobs born 1828 and christened on 21st December 1828 in Havant, Hampshire. She married on 8th February 1848 in Southampton to William Smith

4. Andrew Jacobs born 1831 and christened on 10th July 1831 in Havant, Hampshire

5. Ann Jacobs born 1833 and christened on 10th November 1833 in Havant, Hampshire

6. Henry Jacobs born 1837 and christened on 12th February 1837  in Havant, Hampshire

7. Eliza Jacobs born 1838 and christened on 4th November 1838 in Havant, Hampshire


3. Ann Jacobs born 1803 and christened on 11th December 1803 in St Faiths, Havant, Hampshire.

She married in Farlington, Hampshire on 15th April 1826 to Charles Pyle. born 1806 and christened on 20th May 1806 Nether Wallop, Hampshire. He died19th April 1874 in Catherington, Hampshire.

4. John Jacobs born 1807 and christened on 2nd August 1807. He married on 31st December 1827 in Havant, Hampshire to Emily Page born 1806 and christened on 23rd November 1806 in Chidham, Sussex, England. Her parents were Charles Page and Lucy Horn, they married 8th July 1805 in Chidham.

5. George Jacobs born 1839 and christened on 21st July 1839 in Havant, Hampshire. He married Julia born 1838 in Willington, Essex. In 1881 he was a dealer in corn and living at 15 High Street, East Ham, Essex


6. Eliza Jacobs born 1841 and christened on 14th November 1841 in Havant, Hampshire


7. Lucy Jacobs born 1844 and christened on 26th May 1844 in Havant, Hampshire. In 1881 she was  a Charwoman and living with her mother and brother Henry in West Street, Havant, Hants

Lucy had a son  Henry John Jacobs born 1869 and christened on 26th September 1869 in Havant, Hampshire.


5. Rebecca Mary Jacobs born 1809 and christened on 24th December 1809 . She married 19th July 1830 in Portsea, Hampshire to William Tracey James Scott born 23rd October 1807  and christened on 23rd December 1807 in Havant, Hampshire. His parents were James Scott and Elizabeth Eliza Frances


6. Joseph Jacobs  born 1813 and christened on  21st March 1813 in Havant, Hants. Married 29th March 1834 in Soberton, Hampshire to Elizabeth Easden  born 1815 and christened on 11th July 1815 in Portsea, Hampshire. Her parents were Thomas and Ann Easden.

1.  Joseph Jacobs born 1834 and christened on 18th May 1834  in Soberton, Hampshire. He married on 9th April 1853 in Basingstoke to Ann Burgess born 1829 and christened on  8th November 1829 in Basingstoke. Her parents were William Burgess and Elizabeth Lowe. They married on 25th October 1828 in Basingstoke, Hampshire


2. Andrew Jacobs born 1837 and christened on 26th February 1837  in Soberton, Hampshire. He married on 21st June 1857 to Mary Ann Fay born 1837 and christened on 23rd April 1837 in Havant. He worked as a labourer in a timber yard and she was a laundress. Her parents were Robert Fay and Lucy Nash. They married on 23rd September 1832 in Havant, Hampshire. In 1881 they lived at 28 Walsall Street, Battersea, London

 Andrew James John Jacobs born 1862 and christened on10th August 1862 in Alverstoke,  Hants.  A Bricklayers labourer.

 Marie Jacobs born 1863  in Fulham, London  A Laundress

 Lillie Jacobs born 1869 in Fulham, London  


3. James Jacobs born 1839 and christened on 16th June 1839 in Havant, Hampshire. He married on 22nd November 1862 in Clanfield, Hants to Jane Warren born 1842 and christened on 20th February1842 in Froxfield, Hampshire. In 1881 Jane was a widow living with her three remaining children living  in Clanfield ,Hants. Her parents were William and Elizabeth Warren. 

James and Jane had four children

 William Jacobs born 1863 and christened on 24th April 1863 in Clanfield.  a Carter

James Jacobs born 1865 and christened on17th December 1865 in Clanfield. Died before 1881 

 Henry Jacobs born 1868 and christened on 12th July 1868 in Clanfield

 Elizabeth Jacobs born 1870 and christened on 4th December 1870 in Clanfield


4. Ann Jacobs born 1841 and christened on 25th July 1841 in Havant, Hampshire. She married on 19th April 1862 in Portsea, Hants to John William Buxey  born 1843 and christened on 25th May 1845  in Portsmouth. In 1881  he was a Naval Pensioner and he and Ann were living in 16 Gladstone Street, Portsea, Hants. Also there was an Edward Jacobs aged 10  a nephew. His Parents were Ambrose Buxey and Elizabeth Primmer. They married on 12th December 1842 in Portsea, Hampshire

Ann and John had two children . Andrew John Buxey  christened on 5th April 1863, Elizabeth Maria Buxey born 4th February 1865


5. John Jacobs born 1843 and christened on 10th September 1843 in Havant, Hampshire


6.George Jacobs born 1845 and christened on 10th August 1845 in Havant, Hampshire


7. Mary Maria Jacobs born 1847 and christened on 26th August 1847 in Havant, Hampshire

9. Susan Jacobs born 1851 and christened on 26th October 1851 In Bedhampton, Hampshire


7. James Jacobs born 1816 and christened on 10th March 1816


8. George Jacobs born 1819 and christened on 24th February 1819. He married on 16th September 1847 to Sarah Turnbee born 1811 in Landport, Hants. In 1881 he was a retired Civil Service pensioner living at 18 Marlborough Row, Portsea, Hants


4.William Jacobs born 1799

 christened on 13th October 1799 in Havant, Hampshire.

He married on 13th May 1822 in Westbourne, West Sussex to Sarah Payne born 1802 and christened on 1st July 1802 in Emsworth, Hampshire. He was a Tollgate Keeper and lived and worked at the Portsbridge Tollgate.

1. Sarah Ann Jacobs born 1822 and christened on 7th December1822 in Havant, Hampshire.

She married on 5th February 1842 in Wymering, Hants to William Grant born 1819 and christened on 4th July1819 in Wymering. It appears that he remarried to a Jane Elizabeth?  

In 1881 William ( aged 60)  was a farmer of 300 acres, employing 13 men and living at Widley Church Farm, Widley, Hants. With him was his second wife Jane, daughter Mary and son George. Also there was Kate Reynolds aged 17, a servant

2. Susanna Jacobs born 1825 and christened on 12th June 1825 in Havant, Hampshire. She married on 28th January 1850 in Wymering to George Budden born 1827 and christened on 8th April 1827 in Nursling, Southampton. In 1881 he was a Railway Servant. His parents were Joseph and Mary Budden.

Susannah and George had a son  George William Budden b. 28th July1850 in Wymering


3. William Jacobs b.1827


4. Daniel Jacobs born 1829 and christened on 7th June 1829 in Horndean, Havant, Hampshire. He married on 19th January 1857 in Portsmouth, Hants to Frances Sophia Anderson born 1826 and christened on 1826. In 1881 he was a Master Blacksmith living at 10 Camber Alley, East Street, Portsmouth.  

Daniel and Frances had three children marked 1-3 

 1.James Jacobs born 1861 in Portsmouth an Apprentice Blacksmith

2.Edward Jacobs born 1861 in Portsmouth an Apprentice Blacksmith

 3.Harriet Jacobs born 1864 in Portsmouth a Dressmaker


5. Eliza Jacobs born 1832 and christened on 1st July1832 in Havant, Hampshire. She married on 12th February 1853 in Wymering, Hants to Joseph Burton born 1822  in Enborne, Berkshire. He was a Master Blacksmith.

1. Sarah Burton born 1857 and christened on  9th Aug 1857 in Wymering, Hampshire.  A Laundress

2. Daniel Burton born 1859  in Speen, Berkshire,  a Blacksmith

3. Thomas Burton born 1862 in Speen, Berkshire,  a Blacksmith

4. Julie Burton born 1867 in Speen, Berkshire

5. John Burton born 1869 in Speen, Berkshire

6. Edward Jacobs born 1834 and christened on 9th March 1834 in Horndean, Havant, Hampshire. He married on 1st April 1858 to Caroline Wolf born 17th February 1834. and christened on 10th January 1836 in Hambledon, Hants.

 Her parents were Thomas Wolfe and Ann Tribe. They married on 29th May 1817 in East Meon, Hampshire. Caroline had 7 siblings Thomas born 1818, Daniel born 1820, Joseph born 1821, Helen born 1828, Charles born 1830, Emma born 1832, Ruth born 1836. All born in Hambledon, Hampshire.

Edward remarried on 28th October 1873 in Widley, Hants to Matilda Windebank born 1833 and christened on 9th June 1833. In 1881 he was a Butcher/Coal Merchant living at his house and shop in High St, Cosham, Hants


7. Harriette Jacobs born 1837 and christened on 10th September 1837 in Wymering, Hampshire. 


8. Emily Jacobs born 1843 and christened 15th October 1843 in Wymering , Hampshire. She married on 27th June 1867 in Wymering, Hants to George Boxall born15th October 1843 in Portsea, Hants. He was a Grocer and in 1881 they lived in their High St shop at Widley. Also living there was William Jacobs (Emily's father) His parents were William Boxall born 1815 in Widley, Hampshire (a farrier) and Elizabeth born 1821 in Micheldever, Hampshire

5.William Jacobs

b. 15th July 1827 in Havant, Hants.

William  married in Wymering, Hants on the 28th September 1872 (aged 45) to Rebecca Pile born 1835 in West Meon, Hants. He was a Wheelwright/Carpenter and in 1901 he is shown as a retired Carpenter (aged 73) Rebecca was a dressmaker in Cosham and he lived in Cookham Street, Widley, Hampshire, and she was retired (aged 66) . 

In 1881 they lived in Myrtle Cottage, Cottage Grove, Southsea.

William and Rebecca had two children of their own and they brought up Alfred Evans Smith Johnston (my Grandfather)


William Jacobs  born 1873 and christened on 2nd November1873. In 1901 he was a Tea Dealers Assistant.


Edward Jacobs born 13th April 1875 and Baptised 6th June1875. In 1901 he was a Carpenter and Joiner, and living as a lodger with my grandfather in St Mary's, Southampton.
