In this publication,
first names of four Romany families - Boswells, Herons, Lees
and Smiths - have been compared to look at the frequency of their
usage both within and between families. The usefulness of such
a listing is in identifying ‘marker’ names - that is,
unusual names which tend to be found amongst Romanies and other
Traditional Travellers, and also as an aid to finding links between
families - for instance, given a particular name in a family
other than these four, the likelihood of a link with one or more
of these four families.
