The Orchestra!

The Orchestra is a large group of people who all play individual instruments. They have different pieces of music for each part that makes stunning music when they are played together.

Different orchestras have different layouts.These are just a couple of common ones. One is with a chorus(which is a group of singers) and one is without.

Sections of the orchestra!

The String Section!

This is the biggest section of the orchestra and is made up of violins, violas, cellos and double basses. Sometimes there will also be a harp.

The Woodwind Section!

The flute is a high pitched instrument that is played by blowing across the mouthpiece. The oboe is a fairly high pitched instrument that has a double reed which is blown through. The clarinet can play lower notes than a flute or an oboe,it has a single reed that vibrates against the mouthpiece The bassoon is a very low pitched instrument which is so long it is folded in half. It has a double reed.

The Brass Section!

The trombone has a slide and is one of the oldest brass instruments. it used to be called a sackbut.

The tuba is the lowest of the brass instruments.

The French Horn has a beautiful soft sound but can also play loud!

The Percussion Section!

The percussion section keeps the beat of an orchestra and can also play tunes. Depending on which drums you have you can have a range of very low to very high pitches. There are many other different percussion instruments from all around the world, including maracas, djembes, shakers, cymbals, and many more.
