DULWICH PICTURE GALLERY is England's oldest public art gallery. The magnificent collection of old masters, including works by Poussin, Claude, Rubens, Murillo, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Watteau and Gainsborough, was originally assembled for the King of Poland in the 1790s. When Poland was partitioned, an alternative home was found for the paintings in the "clean air of Dulwich". The Gallery was designed by Sir John Soane - with a new extension recently completed by Rick Mather - and the founders lie to this day in their Mausoleum at the centre of the Gallery.

The Gallery is on one level with full access and facilities for disabled visitors.
Getting to the Gallery: By road: The Gallery is in Dulwich Village, just off the South Circular (A205). There is ample unrestricted parking around the Gallery. Two disabled parking spaces are available within the Gallery Road entrance. By train: Victoria to West Dulwich; London Bridge to North Dulwich. By bus: P4, 3, 37.

Scheduled to open early 2002.The Fashion and Textile Museum is the first museum solely dedicated to British and International fashion and textile design from the 1950's to the present day. Situated on the vibrant and cultural South Bank, close to the new Tate Modern, the brightly hued building is designed by award winning Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta and will house rotating exhibitions as well as Zandra Rhodes' permanent collection of her life's work.Workshops and lectures will be available to students and visitors. This canalside museum is built in a former ice warehouse and visitors can see one of two huge ice wells as well as learing about the history of the canals in London and the people who lived and worked on them. The National Gallery houses one of the greatest collections of Western European painting. It has around 2,300 pictures, including many instantly recognisable masterpieces, such as van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait, Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks, Velázquez's Toilet of Venus and Van Gogh's Sunflowers. The collection covers every European school of painting from 1260 to 1900. These pictures belong to the public and entrance to see them is FREE.
The Gallery offers lectures, quizzes for children, educational films, guided tours, multi-lingual audio-guides and the Micro Gallery computer information room which allows the visitor to explore the Collection by painting, artist, period or subject. Special exhibitions (admission charged for major exhibitions) are held throughout the year and musical evenings every Wednesday.The scope of the National Gallery Collection and the entertaining educational activities make the National Gallery a place to visit again and again.

From Elizabeth I to Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare to Florence Nightingale.....With the largest collection of portraiture in the world, the National Portrait Gallery has over 10,000 works of famous British men and women who have created the history and culture of the nation from the Middle Ages until the present day. In addition to the main collection, the Gallery offers a varied programme of special exhibitions throughout the year. The recently completed Ondaatje Wing offers new public galleries, a roof-top Restaurant with views across London and an IT Gallery offering a touchscreen database of the Gallery’s collection. The Gallery is open until 9pm on Thursday and Friday evenings with special evening lectures and music every week.

Apsley House, famously known as No.1 London, was built by Robert Adam and extended by Benjamin Dean Wyatt. Home to the Dukes of Wellington since 1817, it contains the 1st Duke's magnificent art collection, with outstanding paintings, many originally from the Spanish Royal Collection, by Velazquez, Goya, Rubens, Brueghel, Teniers, Steen, de Hooch, Lawrence and Wilkie; sculpture, including the colossal statue of Napoleon by Canova; porcelain including dining services from all the major factories of Europe; silver, including the spectacular 26' long Portuguese centrepiece; furniture, swords, medals and memorabilia. The collection is largely arranged as it was by the first Duke, against the silk wall hangings and lavish gilt decoration of his London palace.
