Tower Bridge was opened in 1894.
It is open to road traffic all the time, except when a tall ship has to pass. It raises it's bascules to let ship pass through. These bascules were operated 'hydraulically' in the past, but now the 'electricity' has taken over. Old machinery is housed in the Tower Bridge museum
