& Nearly Ten raising
awareness and funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. 50 GOLD BOND places are in reserve for runners rising £50 in sponsorship (payable on registration) which includes free entry into the race. This will be the fourth staging of this poplar 20 mile road race which will take place on Sunday 26th February 2006 Starting at 10.30am. Yet again this race has been chosen by Suffolk County Athletics Association to host their Long Distance County Championships* There is also a supporting run of just under 10 miles (9 miles 703 yards).
The
start and finish of The Muscular Dystrophy Bury 20 is in a lime-tree
avenue in Nowton Park, Bury St Edmunds, which is situated ½ mile
outside Bury St Edmunds on the A134. The accurately measured course has
an approximate 1mile out ‘n’ back section at the beginning and end
of the run. The rest of the 18 mile route is made of a single
anti-clockwise loop taking in the villages and hamlets of Nowton, High
Green, Pinford End, Mickley Green, Melon Green, Lawshall, Hartest,
Shimpling, Lawshall again, Stanningfield, Hoggard’s Green, Brook
Green, Hawstead, returning back to Nowton and into the park. Throughout
the course there are very scenic views of the rolling and undulating
West Suffolk countryside. The shorter run splits from the 20 mile run near the 5-mile mark rejoining the main course near the 17-mile mark. There is a short section (300m) at the start and at the finish which is on grass, the 20 mile course also has a couple of climbs and the nearly ten course has one climb which may make the course unsuitable for wheelchair competitors. Wheelchair competitors are more then welcome to enter the event if you chose to rise to the challenge. *The 20-mile race is part of The Suffolk County Championship Series. Qualification for County Champions is by Birth and / or 9 months continuous residence in the County. For full details please refer to UK:A RULES FOR Competition Rule10.
