SPORTS HALL INDOOR SERIES

Track Races

There is a common start and finish line in the centre of the hall and Reversaboards are used for turning at the ends of the hall.  Races start and finish with the athlete facing the first Reversaboard.

The athlete turns on this first Reversaboard and then runs the length of the hall where another turn is made on the Return Reversaboard.  The lap finishes at the athlete goes through the start again, hence 1 lap is equivalent to 2 lengths of the hall.

        a.                    Sprints                         The sprint has 1 or 2 laps.

b.                   Middle Distance               Distance races have 4, 6 and 8 laps.

c.                    Sprint Hurdles                  1 or 2 laps of soft plastic hurdles.

 d.                   Obstacle Race             1 or 2 laps of obstacles which may include forward roll, bounce, hurdles, tunnel or hopscotch.

If more than one race has to be run in an age group then this will be a time trial.

 Field Events

a.                    Standing Long Jump

The athlete starts with both feet against a starting block and jumps two-footed forward onto a precalibrated mat.  A “no jump” is recorded if the athlete steps or falls back.

 b.                   Vertical Jump

Initially the athlete must stand with their back to the wall chart, extending both arms above the head to mark the start.  For the jump, the athlete dips the fingers in chalk and turns sideways to the board.  A jump is made with the board being touched at the highest point.

 c.                    Standing Triple Jump

Both feet must start behind a scratch line, but need not be together as in Standing Long Jump.  The hop is performed with the athlete landing on the same foot used for take-off .  The step is taken on the other foot, after which the jump is performed by landing on both feet.  A “no jump” is recorded if the athlete steps or falls back.

 d.                   Speed Bounce

Each athlete is given one trial to complete as many speed bounces as possible during a specified period of time (15secs, 20secs or 30secs).  The athlete bounces over a foam wedge and back with both feet together.

 e.                    Sitting Ball Throw

The athlete sits on a bench with both feet touching a bench on its side in front of them.  A football is thrown using both hands starting from above the head.  The athlete must remain seated with feet touching bench.

 f.                     Javelin Throw & Shot

The soft Javelin & soft Shot takes place as a standing throw on an area pre-marked at 1m intervals.  The measurement of the throw will be from the front of the throwing line to the point of first contact with the ground.of the javelin tip or where the shot lands.
