Suffolk Cross Country League Meeting 2002/2003
On Thursday 29th August 2002 there was a meeting of the Suffolk Winter Cross Country league.
PRESENT - Rod Allard & Robert Price (st Edmund Pacers), Paula Balls & Tony Wigglesworth (Waveney Valley AC), Bill Cox (Framlingham Flyers), Jean Cox (Woodbridge Shufflers) Chairman, Paul Felton (Officials), Hayley Suttle (Newmarket Joggers), John Squirrel (Bildeston Bounders), Roger Mawer (Lowestoft Road Runners), Joe Mower (Officials), Roger Wing (Bungay Black Dog), with input from Richard Fellingham and Jan Starmer. Apologies from Richard Wold (Felixstowe Road Runners), Mick Sears, and Chris Starmer (Stowmarket Striders)
1. SPONSOR - Fenn Wright represented by Mark Sargeantson has been pleased to support the series and would like it to consist of five event instead of four this year if practical. (see item 4).
2. TROPHIES - Thanks to the pacers for replacing the mislaid team shields. Mick asked for Clubs who had won the Shields the previous year to bring them to the last race in the series. Robert suggested we should go further and ask for club reprehensive to sign for the perpetual trophies. Agreed.
3. FINANCE - Affiliation fees for the season 2002-3 to be £20 per Club, plus entry fee £2 per runner on the day. Any club having difficulty with the expense of First Aid to discuss with Mick.
4. DATES & VENUES
27th October FRAMLINGHAM (Castle)
1st December WOODBRIDGE (Rugby Club)
29th December BURY (Nowton Park)
19th January BUNGAY (Broom Heath)
26th February STOWMARKET (Haughley Park)
5. PARTICIPATING CLUBS / TEAMS. St Edmund Pacers, Framlingham & Woodbridge, Hadleigh & Bildeston, Bungay & Waveney, Newmarket & Brandon, Harriers, West Suffolk (Juniors Only), Lowestoft. Roger Mawer said the Gt Yarmouth had expressed an interest in participating - no objections. Haverhill have withdrawn.
6. ESSENTIAL FORMALITIES - Joe advised that all cross country leagues now have to be registered ACTION _ MICK. The individual events each have to prepare risk assessments eight week in advance. (Jean doing Woodbridge assessment).
7. SCORING - Each team, seven men and three ladies to count. All five events count for the team awards, but if it can be done easily by recorder four out of five for individual awards.
8. NEXT SEASON - First event to be held end of September and date fixing meeting to be held much earlier. Having the season run from end Sept to early Feb fits well with national calendar.
