There is no point in false modesty, not when our gallery is arguably one of the most stunning exhibition spaces in Penwith. One exhibitor declared 'It is so beautiful it just sells itself' and frankly that's true. We have endless views of the ocean and pouring through our windows, extraordinary natural light. All helping to do justice to our exhibitions.
How our gallery operates ...
Because we are a charity, the gallery is a non-commercial concern. We operate an open booking system for all artists of a professional standard. Established artists can present new and diverse work and new artists can exhibit for the first time. Whatever their aim, the artists we work with know that they have the support and freedom to express their creativity when they come to the Schoolhouse. Our gallery has proved so popular with artists that we are fully booked until 2009. It's true that we predominantly exhibit the work of Cornish artists but every year artists from places such as London, Manchester and even Edinburgh make the journey to show their work with us. It's worth it, we receive literally hundreds of visitors.
During the summer months, from Easter to end of September, we hold fortnightly exhibitions, showing landscape, figurative and abstract work in all media. Ceramics, sculpture, papier mache, weaving; all have adorned our walls. From October to Easter we have monthly exhibitions. Monthly to allow for shorter opening hours.
HOW TO HIRE THE GALLERY
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HIRE THE GALLERY FOR YOUR OWN SOLO OR GROUP EXHIBITION, YOU NEED TO CONTACT TIM OR DIANA WAYNE. IT CAN BE HIRED OUT FOR 2 WEEK PERIODS AT A VERY REASONABLE COST.
