Morvah Action's History
In April 1999 the Schoolhouse opens its doors for the first time after securing a magnificent £100,000 from The Millennium Commission, Penwith District Council and SWERDA. All thanks to the hard work and commitment of the local residents who also ran local fund raising events such as sponsored walks and jumble sales.
In January 2000 the Schoolhouse received £1,000 from the Cornwall Arts Fund to commission Deborah Martin to produce the Morvah Door with the participation of Morvah Parish residents. The stained glass door depicting life in Morvah is now on permanent display in our cafe.
In July 2000 we were presented to HM Queen at the Royal Cornwall Show as a flag-ship example of community enterprise and cohesion.
In October 2000 we received funding from the Local Heritage Initiative Fund to renovate the Morvah Bronze Age Holy Well, to produce a leaflet about the Well and produce a Parish Map. The renovation is now finished and the leaflet is on display(being reprinted)
2001 - Morvah history exhibition - for the first time ever, a collection of information about the tiny medieval parish of Morvah. From prehistory (of which there are many fine local examples) to present day, there were illustrations, photographs and artefacts. This fascinating exhibition told some of the story of this windswept and magical area and was acclaimed by all who visited it!!! All the research materials, maps and photographs are now archived in The Schoolhouse and are made available to any interested party.
2002 - Morvah Parish Map, a book, hand-bound in leather, containing much of what is currently known about Morvah and drawing on the information collected for the history exhibition.
