WRECK OF THE STEAMSHIP "TITANIC"
Originally published in 1912 by the Washington Government Printing Office, this volume
is the transcripts of the hearings before a subcommittee of the committee
on commerce of the U.S. Senate. It is some 1163 pages long and consists of several thousand questions
and answers that were put to the witnesses. It is in some ways more valuable than
the British Enquiry as there are many more passenger Testimonies heard by Senator Smith.
The copy I have in my possession was obtained from the Congressional Information Service Inc.
and cost in excess of $100 including shipping. Whilst the cover has been substantially
altered from the original, the pages themselves are exact facsimiles from the original.
My only criticism is that unlike in the British Enquiry, the final report is not included
in the book.
This aside it is an invaluable research tool to the Titanic enthusiast. If you wish to obtain
the book please E Mail CIS
Due to the cost of the volumes, a group of hardy researchers has transcribed both the U.S. and
British Enquiries onto the Internet in what was a mammoth task. The transcripts can be found at:
