REPORT ON THE LOSS OF THE SS "TITANIC"
REPORT, EVIDENCE & C.

Originally published in 1912 for 7.5d this 900+ page volume contains the report on the loss of the steamship Titanic, as well as the transcripts of evidence given by the many witnesses called before Lord Mersey in his capacity as Wreck Commissioner between May and July 1912.

It is through the answers to over 25,000 questions that the reader is able to draw their own conclusions as to what happened on that fateful night, rather than relying on how previous authors have drawn on the information, and put their own slant on it. Reading these testimonies is the closest a person can get to being on the liner, and this is why I consider it to be such an invaluable publication.

The British Public Records Office issued a facsimile reproduction in late 1998. This was in two editions. A Limited edition of 300 which were signed by 1 of the last 2 living British Survivors, Millvina Dean. The second of the editions was an unlimited run. The volumes were sold at £150 and £75 respectively, and are available from the PRO, although I believe that the signed editions are now all sold, some may be available from: The Internet Bookshop

Due to the cost of the volumes, a group of hardy researchers has transcribed both the U.S. and British Enquiries onto the Internet in what was a mammoth task. The transcripts can be found at: Titanic Inquiry
