I have just obtained this book and have to say that I am extremely impressed. Eaton & Haas have already collaborated on previous occasions, notably Titanic: Triumph & Tragedy and Titanic: Destination Disaster, but for me this book is better than either of those contributions.
The book takes the form of a timeline, starting with the birth of Lord Pirrie, who was the managing director of Harland & Wolff at the time of the construction of the Olympic class. We are lead up to the disaster and such things as the birth of Captain Smith are pointed out along the way. After the disaster we continue on to the present day, with highlights of the Inquiries and the discovery and salvage of the wreck site noted down.
There are still inaccuracies in the text, for instance it is stated that Titanic changed course at 'the corner'. Titanic did not do this but carried on for a brief period in order to put herself to the South of the perceived ice field. These inaccuracies aside the key to this book, as in all of their contributions, are the photographs, approximately 1/3 of the 600+ have not been published previously. One of the most interesting is a Stern view of Titanic at Southampton showing the arrangement of mooring ropes.
A very impressive contribution to the Library, which does not have the depth of Triumph & Tragedybut fills a different niche
