N.B. I have seen this book priced at much less in several bookshops,
dropping as low as £4.99/$8US
This is a lavishly illustrated book, which is a little weak when
it comes to text.
Starting with the construction of the ship, this 200 page book soon moves on
to the search for, and discovery of, the wreck. From then on it concentrates
on the salvage process. The illustrations consist of period photographs as well as
stills taken at the wreck site, and examples of the many objects that have been
recovered so far, such as a stewards jacket or a 2.5 ton bollard.
If you are looking for a book bout the disaster, you can do much better for the same price
or less, but the book is worth the price for the photographs, apart from seeing video footage,
this book will give you the best indication of what the wreck site looks like.
Look at the picture on page 155, of the be-rusticled bow. In your mind turn the clock back
88 years and Titanic is sat in the same place, but the rust is gone, replaced by sharply contrasting
black and white painted plates, separated by a gold line.
A truly impressive book, well worth the price, but do shop around. available for almost £17/$25US.
