This book is widely available, especially in discount bookshops. I recently
picked up a hardback copy for £4.99/$7
Written by 2 Oral Historians from Southampton City Council, with the help of
a Transatlantic Liner expert. The book uses many previously unpublished letters and photographs,
as well as oral histories, to recreate the sailing of Titanic.
The book starts with the renaissance of Southampton and the moving of White Star's transatlantic
service to the port, and continues on through the Olympic class, the sinking,
the investigation and the memorials raised to those lost in the disaster.
A very poignant book which brings to light the human story of the disaster
far better than any other publication I know. To say it is well written is
not entirely accurate, as the authors stitch together assorted different accounts
of the sinking, but in excellent fashion.
Once more, highly recommended. A must have.
