Highbridge Cruising Club

LOCATION

The club is situated on the River Brue, close to the mouth as it exits
along with the River Parrett into Bridgwater Bay. This is the Bristol
Channel, in the south west of England, with the second largest range
of tides in the world. With a range up to 12 metres obviously there are
some fierce currents to contend with, plus the problem of most harbours drying out.

This presents some interesting navigational problems.
With harbour access only available approximately
two and half hours either side of high water.

However, the up-side of these difficulties is the waters are definately
not congested. The rule is quickly learned that you use the tides and
do not try to fight them. It's always said. If you can sail in the Bristol
Channel, you can sail anywhere!
