The beginning.....
Our Chorus formed in
January 2000 with 9 members, quickly increasing to 12
as friends joined us. We attended our first Convention in
October 2000 after successfully
becoming
members of the national Ladies Association of British Barbershop
Singers (LABBS). We
competed
for the first time in October 2001 getting through to the finals at
our first attempt which was very exciting. As the years go by
the chorus continues to improve in our ranking within the
association but that doesn't
interfere with us all having a good
time in fact it encourages it!
Our
members.....
We have
40
members now with a wide
range of jobs, ages and interests within our chorus and this makes
for a great exchange of ideas and nurtures support for one another.
The one thing
which we have in common is of course our love of 4-part
harmony! There's nothing quite like practising together, hitting the right note
with the correct intonation (it's not as hard as it sounds!) and
hearing that chord ring out.
The chorus has a
music team which works hard to learn new songs from 4 part
learning tapes/c.d.'s. Some of us are really up-to-date with
our iPods and music transfers via email! Hopefully this helps the chorus to
learn the numbers more easily and to enjoy the process! We
book coaching from the LABBS association to assist with improving our
singing and presentation. All in all we strive to improve whilst
singing and sharing with others but most importantly we enjoy ourselves! Sometimes it gets
a bit hectic but
the rewards are worth it!
There is still room for
you so hurry along, we'd love to share our hobby! Click

The Music
Team and the Executive Committee....
Sara Jackson is
our MD,
she is a very talented musician who regularly updates her
knowledge by attending coaching sessions provided by LABBS and BABS,
she passes this new knowledge on to our chorus at rehearsals and hopefully we respond and improve!

Jo Lea, (left) is our Assistant MD and she
is already contributing each week whilst continuing with the vocal warm-up exercises.
Claire Summers (right) is our PR person proving her talents in the
fantastic promotion of our recent singing course.
Joy
Clark, (left)
is
our Treasurer and
Catherine
Gordon (right) - is our Lead section leader.
She also gets us
warmed up with some fun physical exercises to start our evening!
