Though there are no mainstream manufacturers in the UK, there are various options for getting an EV.

- AVT (Alternative Vehicles Technology) supply conversions, usually based on a Metro chassis.
- The Lynch Motor company supply conversions, usually based on a Fiesta chassis.

- The UK Battery Vehicle Society (BVS) has been going for many years.

Their magazine, Battery Vehicle Review, includes adverts for second hand EVs.

- AVERE (the European Electric Road Vehicle Association) has links to suppliers around Europe.
- MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) has an "Electric Vehicle Information Forum" page showing many EVs with links to their specifications.
- Powershift programme of the Energy Saving Trust has contact details for EV suppliers.
EVs abroad
Many other countries are making much more progress that the UK.
Notable is the small district of Mendrisio in Switzerland where the public are actively being encouraged to buy and use EVs.
The USA has a very lively scene and is home to General Motor's EV1, currently perhaps one of the best engineered and most well known electric car.
