Report 1, more on lifestyle and convenience

When advocating "going green", some are put off by the threatened change of life style. No change has been necessary.

The charging point and Peugeot 106 electric have met the needs of a family with working parents and young children. Journeys have been a combination commuting, attending meetings, shopping, taxiing children and leisure.

There can be concern that mileage driven increases, perhaps because each trip causes little pollution, the cost is low for each extra mile or driving an EV is fun.

To try to answer this question, the graph below compares this period with the EV to periods in previous years with an Escort 1.6 ICE (internal combustion engine) when details were recorded.

The graph shows no obvious increase or decrease in driving on changing to an EV. Furthermore the averages for mid-week mileage are similar, these being 63 miles for '97, 62 miles for '98, 66 miles for '99.
