Summary

The Peugeot 106 electric was received on 3rd March 1999 and the charging post was fully commissioned on 11th March 1999. This report covers the period up to 11th March 2000. The total distance driven was about 3500 miles, mainly by Dr Sarah Bruml with occasional use by Simon Roberts.

Suitability of EV and on-street charging

In many ways, the on-street charging point and EV can be proclaimed a great success meeting all our expectations.

Average daily use: 16 miles.

No obstruction of the reserved parking bay for the charging post by other vehicles.

No interference with the charging cable while connected to the vehicle. No known obstruction of pedestrians using the pavement by the charging post or cable.

No maintenance required to the vehicle or charging post.

Range

For typical use: 36 miles (61 km).

With gentle acceleration in summer: greater than 50 miles (80 km).

With gentle acceleration in winter: 44 miles (72 km).

Incidents

The first maintenance charge by the garage, as required by the battery lease, took 10 days rather than the typical one!

Misconnection to the charging post on three occasions. One the car on very low charge before reaching home necessitating an emergency recharge across the pavement from a friend's house.

One flat tyre.

The heater locking off twice, each time because we left it on after emptying the fuel tank.

Consumption rate

Averaged over the whole period: 443 Wh/mile.

Average per charge: 400 Wh/mile plus 2000 Wh/charge.

Average per charge during coldest month: 400 Wh/mile plus 5000 Wh/charge.

Charging and battery capacity

Number of charges: about 140.

Estimated energy to charge up from flat: 16.5 kWh.

Costs

Total cost over the year: £1901.

Cost of battery lease: £1198.

Cost of each additional mile: 2 p/mile.

Reports in 5 big-name newspapers and 5 publications with lower circulation.
