Writings

These are important as they act as reminders of the way things really are! Often with our busy lives or suffocating egos we forget and start to act out of ignorance, this leads to fear and suffering. So words can help us stay on the path!

Articles- this I have written throughout the years for the Dharma Yoga Journal. This was produced for many years by Julie Friedeberger for the Dharma Yoga Centre and was a source of some very original writing and sharing.

Quotes :

Anyway

People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centred.
LOVE THEM ANYWAY.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfishness.
DO GOOD ANYWAY.

If you are successful you will win false friends and true enemies.
SUCCEED ANYWAY.

The good you do will be forgotten tomorrow.
DO GOOD ANYWAY.

Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable.
BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
BUILD ANYWAY.

People really need help but may attack you if you help them.
HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.

This poem was found on the walls of Shishu Bhavan, Mother Teresa's childrens home in Calcutta.

Always Serve Others

The salt of life is selfless service.
The bread of life is universal love.
Life is not fully lived, life has not been fully
realised, if you do not serve and love the
entire humanity. The secret of true life is
in the love of God and the service of humanity.
Live to help others. The divine power will stream through you
as a life-giving force.

Commitment by Goethe

Until there is commitment
there is hesitancy
the chance to draw back and ineffectiveness

In all acts of initiative of creation
ignorance of the one elementary truth
kills countless splendid plans

The moment one commits oneself
providence moves too
All sorts of things occurs to help
that would otherwise have never occured

A stream of events issue forth
from the decision : incidents, meetings
and material assistance not forseen

Whatever you can do, or dream
you can do, begin it now
Boldness has genius, power and magic

Begin it now Goethe

Poem by Hazrat Inayat Khan

O Thou, who are the perfection of
Love, Harmony and Beauty,
The Lord of Heaven and Earth,
Open our hearts that we may hear thy voice,
Which constantly comes from within.
Disclose to us Thy Divine Light
Which is hidden in our souls,
That we may know and understand life better.

Blessing by Hazrat Inayat Khan

Most merciful and compassionate God,
Give us Thy goodness.
Teach us Thy loving forgiveness,
Raise us above the distinctions and differences
Which divide us.
Send us the peace of Thy Divine Spirit,
And unite us in Thy Perfect Being.
So be it.

The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is Hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying [to self] that we are born to eternal life.
