S. JOHN EVANGELIST PARISH CHURCH
LEIGH

PCC Meeting - January 13th

The latest meeting of the PCC was on January 13th, S. Kentigern's day.

Various items were discussed, particularly the Parish Profile, which needs to be completed by January 21st to be in time for the next Diocesan Pastoral Committee meeting.

We were required under section 11(1) of the Patronages (Benefices) Measure 1986 again to discuss the Priests (Ordination of Women) Measure. (1993).
The resolutions are:
A: "That this Parochial Church Council would not accept a woman as the Minister who presides at the Eucharist or pronounces Absolution."
B: "That this Parochial Church Council would not accept a woman as the Incumbent or Priest in Charge of the Benefice or as a Team Vicar for the Benefice."

The voting on both these resolutions was the same:

for - 8      against - 1      abstentions - 2      (with 1 member absent)

It was decided not to discuss Resolution C:
"The Parochial Council resolves to petition the diocesan bishop requesting that appropriate episcopal duties in the parish should be carried out in accordance with the Episcopal Ministry Act of Synod 1993."
until more information on its implications could be obtained.

Mr. Green presented the financial report for November and December and reported that we had received a bequest from the late Emily Seddon, and that the Quota had been paid in full. Discussion on the possible purchase of a better duplicator/printer. whose cost would be shared with S. James', Daisy Hill, was postponed until Geoffrey Porter could be present.

The next meeting of the PCC is to be February 3rd
