Wales and Britain in the Early Modern World
 
In Year 8 you will study "Wales and Britain in the Early Modern World". You will learn:- *How did a Welshman became Knig Of England? *Why the school is named after Henry VIII? *How has Elizabeth I been portayed in recent films and T.V. programmes? *Why was there a Civil War in England and what was it like? There are lots of burnings, hangings, be-headings,battles, plagues and general gore to get your teeth into!

Tudor England - A good site on Tudor England. There are biographies of all the monarchs (including Jane Grey!) and the site is easy to understand.

Tudors and Stuarts - This site was written by the Welford and Wickham Primary School and has lots of information about the Tudors and Stuarts. It is clear and concise with good links.

1492: An Ongoing Voyage - This is about Columbus' voyages. It is also good for material on early American civilizations, e.g. Aztecs and Mayas. Click on "What came to be called America", then work through the site references .

Leonardo Da Vinci - This site has details of his inventions, art and life story.

Lady Jane Grey - This is a website on all aspects of her life.

Foxe's Book of Martyrs - For Mary Tudor's treatment of Protestants, including Elizabeth and Lady Jane Grey, Latimer, Ridley and Cranmer , see Chapter XVI. Remember that this book is propaganda.

    Elizabeth I - This lovely website has quotations of her sayings, her written works, a gallery of pictures, essays and articles.

    Richard III Society - The members of the Society do not believe that Richard III murdered the Princes in the Tower. A well organized site with a basic programme for those wanting to start from scratch.

    Sir Walter Raleigh - This site contains a biography, and his writings.

    The Gunpowder Plot

    Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot

    The John Hampden Society- John Hampden was important in the run up to the Civil War. This is a good site.

    The English Civil War - This site contains information about events, people, technology and battles.

    The Battle of Naseby - This site contains information about C17th soldiers, the Battle of Naseby, and archaeology of this battlefield.

    The Great Fire of London - This will give you Samuel Pepys' eye-witness account.

    The Aphra Behn Page - Aphra Behn was the first professional English woman playwright, and is also very important for the development of the novel.

    The Glorious Revolution - Again, good.
