PEAKS. This is not the usual mixture of innaccuracies and
well known facts. It contains interviews with Lynch, Tony
Krantz (his agent at the time), Mark Frost, Kyle
MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee and David Duchovny. I would urge
people to buy this U.S magazine but, when time permits, I
will type the entire article and put it in this section
on my site. In the meantime click
here for the full page montage scanned from the same
feature.
10/06/00 - OK MAGAZINE tells us this
bizarre story when Lara Flynn Boyle (Peaks' Donna
Hayward) went to a recent basketball game in Los Angeles.
As the camera panned to Lara and Jack Nicholson a man
sitting beside her tapped her on the knee and, never
taking his eyes of the court, handed her something. Lara
took whatever it was and buried it in her lap. Jack, as
videotapes of the game prove, saw none of this. However,
a few minutes later, when the cameras panned back to the
couple, the mystery man had gone. Who was he? What did he
give her? Lara's agent refuses to explain. We wonder why.

today. www.straightstory.com
- 02/12/99 - THE TIMES reviews THE STRAIGHT STORY.
"This must be the strangest road movie ever made,
but it is also one of the most loveable. It was with TWIN
PEAKS, which won and then lost a mass audience, that
Lynch showed most clearly his ambivalence about
narrative: the first episodes of that series created a
powerful need to know, which later ones only teased at
mocked."

rerun of the TWIN PEAKS sequel confirming that Lynch is
flavour of the month in Britain. A generally favourable
set of reviews from the TV listings magazines, here are
some examples; WHATS ON TV - 3 out of 4 (good),
"Totally weird and unique." TV CHOICE - 3 out
of 5 (good), "If you never watched TWIN PEAKS on the
telly this might not make a lot of sense - but bear in
mind it isn't supposed to. Director David Lynch created
the weirdest little town in America, so don't expect
things to happen logically." RADIO TIMES - 4 out of
5 (very good), "Undervalued on cinema release, this
is a spaced out odyssey of extraordinary obsession and
power, as one hypnotic sequence follows another. Lynch's
startling contemplation on our unfair universe is a must
for TWIN PEAKS freaks." TV QUICK - 3 out of 5
(recommended),"Those unfamiliar with TWIN PEAKS
might find it all a bit too weird, but should persevere.
Fans will lap it up though." TV TIMES - 1 out of 5
(missable), "At well over two hours, a long
indulgence. David Bowie appears and says nothing, while
other stars appear and may wish they had said
nothing."
- 27/11/99 - THE STRAIGHT STORY is reviewed in EMPIRE.
"After the spiralling despair of his previous films,
Lynch has evidently cheered up. You probably wouldn't
take this from anyone else, but Lynch's tribute to the
human spirit in twilight leaves the likes of DRIVING MISS
DAISY and GRUMPY OLD MEN stranded on the verge while the
mower moves inexorably on." 4 stars (very good).
- 27/11/99 - FILM REVIEW gives THE STRAIGHT STORY a rare
thumbs-down. "Like sitting by a river, it's not an

films."

comes to the London Film Festival today. It will be shown

STORY. It describes the minor characters as "decent
and cherry-pie loving as TWIN PEAKS' Agent
Cooper..." The reviewer says the film is "a
hundred times more compelling than the oblique nonsense
Lynch has been peddling since the early Nineties."
- 02/11/99 - TWIN PEAKS makes it into the best shows ever
list that the TV TIMES is compiling. It was placed at 76
and the picture that accompanied it was from the
Vodaphone commercial! Here's what they had to say-
"Feted as the television masterpiece of the 90's,
the series also attracted flak for its style-over-content
approach."
- 01/11/99 - EMPIRE reports on the car crash involving Jack

picture of Lara accompanies this news.
- 07/10/99 - This is taken from STARBURST magazine.
"Another TV pilot to bite the dust is David Lynch's
MULHOLLAND DRIVE. It won rave reviews from the trade
writers who managed to see it but apparently the ABC
network thought it was too weird as well as excessively
violent. Lynch may now take the production elsewhere,
possibly HBO or Fox."

looks like he has burned his bridges with THE X FILES
according to TV TIMES. Duchovny claims that 20th Century
Fox sold the show to its subsidiaries at a cut-price
rate, so cheating him out of money.
- 12/09/99 - LIFE - THE OBSERVER MAGAZINE today published
televisions 100 greatest moments. Although TWIN PEAKS
didn't feature in the actual 100, it was mentioned twice
in a selection of reader's favorite moments on TV.
"In the first episode of TWIN PEAKS when the father
is told that Laura is dead, and the wife hears over the
phone. The father drops the phone and you can hear the
mother screaming on the other end", says one reader.
Another person prefers the final episode saying,
"There is pure evil in the final five minutes -
don't flinch."
- 04/09/99 - THE STRAIGHT STORY is featured in this month's
edition of UNCUT. There is a factfile and a small photo
and the film is favorably reviewed. It mentions the
glowing reception it received at Cannes and says
"...you wish he'd (Lynch) been making films like
this all along instead of increasingly impenetrable tosh
like LOST HIGHWAY. At last here's one for film lovers,
not obscurant Goth weirdos." Quite clearly our
friend speaks for himself when describing the films of
Lynch as impenetrable! THE STRAIGHT STORY will be at
cinemas from December.
- 03/09/99 - Miguel Ferrer (Peaks' Albert Rosenfeld), is
EMPIRE magazines video superstar this month. A small
photo from ROBOCOP accompanies a short factfile of his
film career. FIREWALK WITH ME is listed in his track
record but there is no reference to TWIN PEAKS.
- 24/08/99 - In this weeks TV TIMES there is a small
photograph of Heather Graham (Peaks' Annie Blackburn),
and a short interview. Commenting on her role in AUSTIN
POWERS 2, she says that it has changed her life and
"people come up to me and take pictures."
- 17/08/99 - This weeks issue of the TV TIMES reports that
David Duchovny (Peaks' Dennis/Denise Bryson) is wanted by
James Cameron to star in MARS, his big budget television
series. This is Cameron's next major project after
TITANIC whose cast included David Warner and Billy Zane
from Twin Peaks' second season.
- 17/08/99 - An interesting fact appeared in TV AND
SATELLITE WEEK. This information is in a David Duchovny
fact file: "His TWIN PEAKS role as cross-dressing
drugs investigator Dennis/Denise Bryson - originally to
be played by James Spader - helped get him the part of
Fox Mulder". I didn't know that James Spader was
linked with this role and if anyone knows any more
details I would be interested to hear from them.
- 14/08/99 - This weeks issue of O.K magazine has small
photographs of David Lynch and David Duchovny
accompanying separate stories. Duchovny has lost in a bid
to stop an Internet company from selling autographs,
which he claims are forged. The Lynch article
claimed..."When his new movie THE STRAIGHT STORY
took Cannes by storm, because of its family-friendly
content, everyone thought he'd changed his ways. Not that
much. ABC has decided not to show a pilot for TV drama
MULHOLLAND DRIVE, because it's "too weird". The
level of violent imagery probably bothered them. And here
they may have a point. The script for the pilot opens
with a car crash where a limo driver is catapulted
through the windscreen, another man is torn apart as the
car drives over him, and a woman in the back is tossed
about in a shower of glass and rocks. Hardly Little House
on the Prairie, is it." If there is no room in the
television schedule for a David Lynch project, I find it
rather sad. Television is still 99% garbage yet ABC will
not take a risk with something that Lynch has been so
heavily involved in.
- 05/08/99 - THEY THINK IT'S ALL OVER - BBC1 22:20 - A
mention of TWIN PEAKS on a repeat of the New Years Eve
episode of the alternative sporting quiz. At the end of
the show one team member has a number of cards with the
names of sportspersons on them and the other person has
to guess who it is from a description by them. When
trying to describe British golfer Laura Davies, one of
the contestants kept saying "Twin Peaks, who killed
somebody Palmer", in an attempt to describe the name
of Laura!
- 01/08/99 - AUTUMN IN NEW YORK - Joan Chen (Peaks' Josie
Packard) will direct Richard Gere and Winona Ryder in
this tearjerker. Chen impressed with her directoral debut
XIU XIU:THE SEAT DOWN GIRL.
