Wyatt & Ayres
Songwriters
Wyatt & Ayres have emerged from the ashes
of other bands, their talents have grown
and matured over the years. They are gifted songwriters targeting their songs
at a very
diverse range of artists, from established, to up and coming bands. Wyatt &
Ayres have
played in various bands together, including Izzy The Push, Swell Season, Tuesdays
Event.
As part of a band they entered the coveted South West Area Original Group Award
with,
3 of Wyatt & Ayres songs. They picked up 1st Prize in 3 out of the 4 years
they were
allowed to enter "We just kept winning it, so they banned us from entering
the 5th year".
As band members, they have played numerous gigs from London to Wales and have
played
places of such note as, the Rock Gardens and the Marquee. They have supported
various
bands including Sam Brown. They have been produced by Kevin Wilkinson from China
Crisis
(Squeeze, Waterboys Etc) and have worked with the producer of Betty Boo.
Wyatt & Ayres songs are well-crafted fresh
songs with great melodies and strong hooks.
They are finely tuned to suit all sorts of bands from Girl and Boy Bands to
Guitar Bands.
As songwriters they are not tied to one group of song, they are not blinkered
by any one style.
They have no main influences for songwriting. They write songs for everybody.
They bounce
Ideas off each other and find this method of writing to be a catalyst for producing
material in
any direction. They are using this web site as a way of targeting songs to bands.
Their aim is
to fill in the gaps. The style of song also differs from rock songs to ballads.
They believe that their present batches of songs
are better than they have ever been. They also
believe that there has never been a better time to push their material. They
told me, "There seems
to be a lot of girl and boy bands coming up now who need songwriters. They have
the talent
and the set up behind them, but not the songwriting ability that they need to
succeed in this business".
They met each other through studio work at a
local recording studios. Paul Ayres was the session
bass player for that studio and Paul Wyatt asked him to do some session work
for him on his latest
song. They became great friends and writing partners. "The songs are usually
constructed with
Wyatt coming up with a melody and some words over lots of sleepless nights,
then we meet up
and build the song from that nucleus and it just snowballs from their".
They edit and arrange the
song, do a rough mix on tape first. "It also works the other way around
when Ayres may come up
with a melody and some words, but we still work closely together and bounce
ideas off each other".
They are not afraid of saying what they think about a song or about someones
performance, they say,
"We have to be critical of ourselves to be able to come up with the best
possible song that we can".
Whether they have achieved these aims is for you to decide.
