BiographiesSimon RumleyWriter / Director / ProducerSimon Rumley wrote, directed and produced Smiles, Laughter and Insanity, a 45 minute trilogy, during the hours he wasn't working as a runner for a production company. Laughter, the showcase film, was nominated for the ICA annual Dick Awards and was voted runner-up. The trilogy subsequently ran for two weeks at the ICA Cinematheque. Rumley then wrote, produced and directed Phew, starring Frank Williams (Dad's Army) and Paul Tonkinson (Time Out Stand-Up Comedian of the Year and MTV presenter). A "Tales of the Unexpected" style black comedy, Phew provoked equal amounts of delight and disgust wherever it was shown. All four shorts were shown extensively throughout the UK in clubs, at festivals, by film societies and in association with The Short Film Agency. Last year Rumley was invited by the European Film Academy to an annual gathering of Europe's most promising young directors. Strong Language (written, produced and directed by Rumley was nominated for the 1998 British Independent Film Awards in two categories: Most Talented Newcomer and Best Achievement in Production. Strong Language was released on video and DVD through Third Millennium on March 17th 2000. The Truth Game is the second film in Simon Rumley's trilogy about young Londoners at the end of the millennium and forms the follow-up to Strong Language; Club Le Monde (scheduled for release later this year) completes the trio. |
