Fat Boy

Andy's use of the the term "Fat Boy" in the song "This Is The End" is not only a self-deprecating jibe ("And they won't drop Fat Boy on your town..."), but also a deliberate twist or misremembering of the names given to the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan by the United States in 1945.

Fat Man

Fat Man contained a hollow ball of plutonium surrounded by explosives. When these explosives were detonated, the resulting force, focussed inward, compressed the plutonium, thereby initiating a chain reaction. A bomb such as this was detonated during the Trinity test at Alamogordo, New Mexico, then dropped on Nagasaki.

Little Boy

Little Boy had as its fissionable core a rare and unstable isotope of uranium called U-235. To achieve the critical mass necessary for a nuclear reaction, one chunk of U-235 was fired down a tube into another piece of U-235. On August 6, 1945, a U-235 bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, killing eighty thousand people.
