Muammar Muhammad al-Qadhafi took over the leadership of Libya's government in 1969 after he led a military overthrow of Libya's monarchy. Other spellings of his name include Gadhafi, Kaddafi, and Qaddafi.
Qadhafi is an outspoken radical leader with a strong belief in Arab unity under Islam and has sought to spread his influence. To these ends he has been denounced by leaders of many countries for interfering in other nations' affairs and giving military and financial aid to revolutionaries and terrorists in many parts of the world. President Ronald Reagan of the United States accused Qadhafi of aiding international terrorists and, in 1986, ordered United States planes to bomb military installations in Libya. In 1992, the United Nations (UN) imposed sanctions on Libya for refusing to turn over Libyans suspected of placing bombs on two international civilian flights.
As Libya's leader, Qadhafi encourages strict obedience to the laws of Islam. His government took control of many economic activities; Committees of employees replaced heads of businesses. With income from oil production, Qadhafi built many schools, houses, and hospitals, and his government provides free social services for all citizens.
Qadhafi was born in a desert tent near the town of Surt. He attended the Libyan Military Academy in Benghazi and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, England.
The Warner Bros. cast of characters would not be complete without the wild and wonderful Daffy Duck. First envisioned by Tex Avery, this maladjusted mallard made his debut appearance in "Porky's Duck Hunt" way back in 1937. The essence of Daffy's indignant outrage at a world that does not instantly gratify all of his needs is fully captured in his famous "You're despicable!" quote first heard in 1952.
Despite having been filmed numerous times engaged in acts of extreme and sickening violence, no successful charges have ever been brought against this character.
