"Laundry ticket that exploded" refers to The Ticket that Exploded, a 1962 science fiction novel by "literary outlaw" William S. Burroughs, infamous for his drug use, febrile imagination, and obsession with guns. The Ticket was the second book in a trilogy that also includes The Soft Machine and Nova Express.
