There is a child's game played in the UK where the object is to be the highest person, perhaps at the top of a sand dune, while all the others remain lower down than yourself. Getting yourself to the top and ensuring that all others remain around the bottom is to be achieved by any means to hand (or foot, if mum's not looking).
It is the lot of the child who does succeed in staying on top to crow and mock the others, calling "I'm the Queen/King of the castle, and you're the dirty rascals," down to them as they muster their forces for a renewed assault.
