3's Victorious in Derby
The second derby match between Chester 3 and Chester 4 ended with the third team winning 3½ - 1½ in Division Two of the Chester & District League last Tuesday.
Chester 4 had a significantly weakened team, missing Dave Hulme who was absent, Joe Nemcek who was playing for his own team, and Steve Lloyd who was involved in a club championship game. However, they managed to take a shock lead when John Vernon defeated Ian Clayton on board four.
Vernon had played what seemed like a meaningless move which was dismissed by Clayton. Vernon then played a move to trap Clayton's queen and Clayton quickly resigned. However Chester 3 were soon back on level terms when Alan Mealing, in his first game for over a year, beat Freddy Campbell on board five

On board three, 3's Harry Bulla--rd drew with Steve Bardell, then on board one Chester 3 acting captain Graham Bromley defeated Paul Harnett.
Finally, the victory was wrapped up for Chester 3 by John Sutcliffe, who eventually overcame Chester 4 captain Colin White after a long battle. Upcoming Tournaments
