Chester 2 Hold Wrexham
Chester & District League Team Chester 2 have put their first points on the board after earning a good draw at home to 04/05 league winners Wrexham.
Each game was a close game, and after two hours play all games were still in progress. The first game to finish was on board two when Chester's Shaun McConochie defeated David Simpson. Then Chester board four Steve Lloyd gained his first points for the team, agreeing a draw with Ray Holland in a rook and pawn ending.
Wrexham later equalized thanks to board five Bryan Davies defeating Harry Bullard. This was followed by another draw on board three between Chester's Joe Nemcek and Wrexham's John Canham. However later analysis by Nemcek suggested he had a won
game.
This left the result of the game hanging on the game on board one between Chester captain Paul Watson and the internationally rated Welshman Charles Morris. Despite giving up over 40 grading points, Watson was able to hold Morris for a draw in the endgame.

Poor Defeat For Champs
Defending Chester & District League winners Chester 1 have suffered their second defeat in as many games, this time at home to Caergwrle 1.
Captain Graham Bromley beat Mike Friel on board five while David Bryan and Tim Everrett held Robert Skinner and Edwin Livesey on board three and four respectively. However it was on boards one and two where
Caergwrle did the damage.
Ard van Bergen, playing on top board, had gaining a material advantage against Robert Clark, but an unfortunate blunder gave Clark the victory, while board two Chris Doran had a poor game which led to his defeat against David Bennion.

Away Loss For Third Team
Wirral League Division 2 team Chester 3 have suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat away to Caergwrle 2.
An early defeat on board five for Frank Howell against Mike Friel gave Caergwrle a one-nil lead. This was later followed by the game on board two, when a late blunder by Harry Bullard against Edwin Livesey gave the home team a two-nil lead. Two-nil soon became three-nil when Graham Williams defeated Ian Clayton on
board three. Clayton had the better of the game but tried to be too clever and allowed Williams to get back into the game.
Caergwrle had won the match, but Chester were able to salvage some pride back. First Colin White beat David Parker-Williams on board four then Steve Lloyd got a good win against Haydn Parry on board one.

Round Up
Early results in the three internal competitions have began to appear on the board.
In the Club Championship, Paul Watson beat recently promoted Steve Lloyd while Colin White defeated Paul Harnett in the Hallard Cup. Meanwhile Geoff Townsend made a good start in his bid to win his own cup, defeating young Marvin Hayes.
