James C. JONES, P.O. Motor Mechanic, D/MX.74660. On 19th January 1943 he took part in a raid by three Motor Torpedo Boats on Tripoli Harbour. They came across three tugs towing an Italian submarine. They attacked and set fire to one tug, which caused all three tugs to abandon the submarine and return inside the harbour. The MTB‘s then turned their attention to the submarine and severely damaged it with torpedoes before returning to Malta. He was awarded the DSM for this action
