P.O. Motor Mechanic John N. LAWRENCE BEM, P/MX.79487. On 19th January 1943 he took part in a raid by three Motor Torpedo Boats on Tripoli Harbour. They came across three tugs towing an Italian submarine. They attacked and set fire to one tug, which caused all three tugs to abandon the submarine and return inside the harbour. The MTB‘s then turned their attention to the submarine and severely damaged it with torpedoes before returning to Malta. He was awarded the DSM for this action

A.H. LUNNON, AB, HMS Welshman, died 1st February 1943. The ship was proceeding to Alexandria when it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-617, and sank after three hours with the loss of over 150 Royal Navy officers and men, plus a number of soldiers and airmen who were also on board
B.W.F. LUNNON, Stoker 1st Class, died 16th April 1943, on board the destroyer HMS Pakenham, off the island of Pantellaria. His ship together with HMS Paladin engaged two Italian Navy destroyers, Cassiopea and Cigno. The latter was sunk but HMS Pakenham sustained serious damage and though taken in tow had to be sunk after an air attack

W. LYNCH, ERA, died 23rd July 1941, on board the cruiser HMS Manchester. His ship was part of the escort of Operation ‘Substance’ a Convoy from Gibraltar, when it was hit by torpedoes fired by the Italian E-boats Nos. 16 and 22. An oil fuel tank was hit and the adjacent compartments flooded, also her engines were damaged, so she returned to Gibraltar

Admiral Herbert LYON CB, the son of A.W. Lyon, J.P., of Abbotsclownholme, Rocester, Stafford. Husband of Frances Violet Lyon, nee Inglis, of Stoke Cottage, Stoke, Devonport. He served in HMS Charybdis in the Lingi and Lukat River Expeditions, Straits of Malacca and Perak, as Captain of HMS Retribution at the blockade of Venezuela, and as Commodore at Hong Kong. With the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on HMS Boadicea he served during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. He retired from the Royal Navy, but returned to active service in WWI as Captain R.N.R. HM Yacht Safa el Bahr on patrol duty in the Mediterranean, and later as Commodore of Patrols, Malta. He died on 15th March 1919 in Bighi Hospital. He is remembered on the WWI Memorial Board in Stoke Damerel Parish Church, Plymouth
