H.T. TALMAN, AB, died 16th April 1943, on board the destroyer HMS Pakenham, off the island of Pantellaria. His ship together with HMS Paladin engaged two Italian Navy destroyers, Cassiopea and Cigno. The latter was sunk but HMS Pakenham sustained serious damage and though taken in tow had to be sunk after an air attack

 

S.J. TANCOCK, AB, died 19th December 1941, on board the cruiser HMS Penelope. His ship ran into and Italian minefield, and struck a mine which exploded on the port side abreast of the bridge, but the damage was not severe and she arrived at Malta

G.A. TANNER, Lieutenant (S), died 12th August 1942, on board the Aircraft Carrier HMS Indomitable. His ship was part of the escort for Operation ‘Pedestal’ from Gibraltar. In the late afternoon twelve German Ju87 aircraft attacked the carrier and she suffered serious damage from the bombs. One hit the forward AA gun positions killing more than twenty of the Royal Marines detachment. Another landed near the forward lift and penetrated the upper gallery deck and exploded above the main hangar deck. The wardroom was crowded with off-duty pilots and observers when it was wrecked by a bomb killing all the occupants. The ship survived the onslaught and headed for Gibraltar

Anthony TESTA, E/LX23186, died 8th April 1940, on board the destroyer HMS Glowworm. His ship encountered the German invasion force for Norway and rammed the German cruiser Admiral Hipper, but was sunk by gunfire from the German ship. Only 38 of the crew survived. Lieut-Commander Roope, the C.O. of the Glowworm  was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross

B. THOMAS, Stoker 1st Class, died 15th June 1942, on board HMS Badsworth. His ship was part of the escort for Convoy ‘Harpoon’ from Gibraltar, when it came under attack from enemy aircraft, but was damaged under the bridge when it ran into a newly laid minefield. The merchant ship Burdwan had a flooded engine room and her rudder hard over, so Lieutenant Gray, commanding HMS Badsworth was ordered carry out the unpleasant duty of sinking it, causing valuable supplies to be lost

G.W. THOMPSON, AB, died 15th June 1942, on board the destroyer HMS Airedale. His ship was part of the escort for the Convoy ‘Vigorous’ from Alexandria, protecting eleven merchant ships. During the afternoon of the 15th the Convoy was attacked by German dive-bombers, and no less than twelve aircraft targeted HMS Airedale, and left it a smouldering wreck. The after end was completely gone and it is believed that her own ammunition or depth charge store had exploded

Roy C. TOMKINS, Able Seaman, P/JX.296533. On 19th January 1943 he took part in a raid by three Motor Torpedo Boats on Tripoli Harbour. They came across three tugs towing an Italian submarine. They attacked and set fire to one tug, which caused all three tugs to abandon the submarine and return inside the harbour. The MTB‘s then turned their attention to the submarine and severely damaged it with torpedoes before returning to Malta

Stanley Arthur TUCKER, aged 20 years, bachelor, Leading Sick Berth Attendant, HMS Falcon, the son of Stanley Edward Tucker, married 14th November 1953 to, Molly Gwendoline HOLNESS, aged 21 years, spinster, G.I.V.A.D., Royal Naval Hospital Bighi, the daughter of Frederick William Holness. The Marriage was conducted by the Reverend John Geikie Falconer, Chaplain, R.N. and took place at St.Luke’s Chapel, Bighi Royal Naval Hospital

 

Victoria Hilda TUCKER, the daughter of Victor Edward and Hilda Tucker, 80 Strada Nuova, Sliema, Petty Officer, R.N., born 29th December 1927

 

W.J. TUCKER, AB, died 10th January 1941, on board the destroyer HMS Gallant, which was escorting a Convoy, when it struck a mine that shattered the ship’s bows. Over 60 men were killed and another 25 injured. The ship was irreparably damaged but towed into Grand Harbour and beached beneath Crucifix Hill

 

J.D. TUFFILL, Midshipman, died 12th August 1942, on board the cruiser HMS Nigeria. As part of the escort to the ‘Pedestal’ Convoy, the ship came under attack from Italian and German aircraft during the day, but at dusk was hit by torpedoes fired by the Italian submarine Axum, and sustained damage, causing her to return to Gibraltar

 

Allan Francis TURNBULL, the son of Jessie Irene and Reginald Thomas Turnbull, 13 Prince of Wales Junction, Sliema, Able Seaman, Royal Navy, born 28th February 1934

 

John William Goldie TURNBULL, aged 26 years, bachelor, Paymaster Lieutenant, RNVR, the son of Alexander Turnbull, married 12th June 1920 to, Nathalie SWENSON, aged 20 years, spinster, the daughter of Anatol Swenson

 

Married 12th February 1938, Mr. TURNER, of H.M. Dockyard, to Nellie CALNAN, of Sliema. The service was conducted by the Reverend Dr. Calnan, uncle of the bride, of Surbiton, London

 

B. TURNER, Stoker 1st Class, died 13th August 1942, on board the cruiser HMS Manchester. On escort duty with the ‘Pedestal’ Convoy his ship was badly damaged by enemy aircraft, and later sank. A large number of the crew were rescued by the destroyer HMS Eskimo

Richard Hawley TURNER, aged 22 years, bachelor, Stoker, HMS Sandfly, the son of William Turner, married 21st March 1901 to, Pepina SANDHAM, aged 37 years, widow, the daughter of Angelo VELLA

 

R.M. TURNER, Stoker Petty Officer, HMS Welshman, died 1st February 1943. The ship was proceeding to Alexandria when it was torpedoed by the German U-boat U-617, and sank after three hours with the loss of over 150 Royal Navy officers and men, plus a number of soldiers and airmen who were also on board

 

W.H. TURNER, Leading Stoker, died 25th April 1943, on the destroyer HMS Petard, whilst engaged in attacking enemy shipping off the coast of Tunisia

 

William Robert TURNER DSM, Leading Seaman, D/J 110765, lost his life in the submarine Upholder on 14th April 1942

 

N.A. TUTTLEBURY, AB, died 22nd March 1942, on the destroyer HMS Kingston. The ship was later taken into the drydock for repair where she was severley damaged by German bombing on 11th April, and was subsequently sunk as a blockship
