MARRIAGES RECORDED BY MILITARY CHAPLAINS IN MALTA 1824 - 1900

This
list of marriages from 1824 to 1900 performed by Chaplains to the Forces in
Malta is incomplete, since it only contains those marriages reported to the
General Register Office in England. Not all Chaplains sent details to the GRO
for a variety of reasons, and therefore this list will be expanded from time to
time as new data is discovered.
The
earliest wedding in Malta appearing in the GRO records is from 1824 but they had
taken place as early as December 1801. Unlike Church Registers which were kept
at the church and used by successive clergymen each Military Chaplain retained
his own Register and took it with him when posted to a new location. Therefore
in the early 1800’s several registers were in use at the same time.
