RINELLA MILITARY CEMETERY

Main Entrance
This cemetery which is located about halfway between Kalkara Naval Cemetery and Bighi Hospital was in use for British Servicemen and their families from 1865 to 1916. In 1978 any remains were transferred to Kalkara Naval Cemetery into a Mass Grave.
There were however about a dozen later burials which were also moved to Kalkara Naval cemetery but to individual graves.
The cemetery contained two Memorials, one erected by the 2nd Battalion Dorset Regiment and the other by 1st Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry
The earliest identified burial in this index is 1868.

During and just after World War I, German Prisoners-of-War were buried here, and when the cemetery was emptied in 1978 their remains were transferred into a Mass Grave at Kalkara Naval Cemetery.
