Gentlemen,
After a servitude of 33 years as Bellman to your Corporation I beg to apply to you for an increase of my salary. At the time of my appointment to the old Corporation the collecting of samples of Fish etc for the Mayor made the remuneration far greater than the amount which I now receive, whilst the carrying out of the duties of my office has considerably increased owing to the extension of the Borough.
I also find that in numerous instances parties who lose articles give information at the police station, when formerly they used to employ me thus seriously diminishing the remuneration of my office.
I am 74 years of age and trust you will favourably consider my application.
I am Gentlemen, Your most obedient servant.
