Dosthill March 24th 2001
Back to Dosthill a week after my AOW course accompanied by Louise. I had lost my watch there the previous week and thought that it might have been handed in???
We planned to do 3 dives during the day, all shallow dives as I was using borrowed regs and after having a free flow the previous week I was not too keen to examine the depths of Dosthill, especially when the water temp was only 3.5 degrees.
The first dive, as did all the others, started with a surface swim to the South side of the quarry. We descended to the house and toured around the 8 metre shelf and then returned to our exit point via the East wall. The viz was not too good towards the end although for the most part during the day it was 6 to 8 metres. We had a surprise when we surfaced as there had been an emergency. A diver had made a rapid ascent from 23 metres and was not breathing and had no pulse when brought to the bank. Fortunately Mac and Sarah were able to resuscitate him, and he was taken to hospital.
The second and third dives were fairly similar. We decided to explore the 8 metre shelf and the reed beds to see what fish we could see. In total we saw lots of roach, a small pike, and a large koi. As the viz was not too good we completed each of the dives by surface swimming back the North side of the quarry.
All in all a good days diving and although I didn’t get my watch back I did learn something to my advantage, A local dive centre are offering the PADI Rescue Course plus MFA for £25. So I made a note to contact them ASAP.
