Dosthill  April 21st & 22nd 2001

Back to Dosthill accompanied by Dave, who was doing his first inland dive. We arrived at about 8:45 and as usual we had plenty of space in the car park.

For the first dive we dropped in at the North side and went down to 23 metres, then had a look around this area where there were several cars and a boat. We then set off anti clockwise and did a circuit of the quarry. Near the South East corner we saw a pike sitting on the bottom at 20 metres, quite unusual. Came back to the surface with only about 10 bar of air in Dave’s tank.

For the second dive we had a surface swim to the South side and then had a look on the ledge before returning home via the West wall. We came up beyond the boat as we had gone past the exit point.

For the third dive we again had a surface swim to the South side. Once we had dropped down we went into the reed beds to see what fish we could find. Saw quite a few roach, perch, 3 or 4 pike and some large koi. Finished with a swim along the West wall, albeit at a shallower depth than last time.

In the evening we joined Mac, Sarah and their students, had a nice meal and several beers.

The following morning we had planned 2 dives. However when we dropped down to 23 metres we found other divers had settled on the bottom and kicked up a lot of silt. Almost zero viz, so I signalled to Dave to go up. When we got to the surface we had to change the plan and surface swam to the South side, only to find that the viz was very poor here too. We finished off by dropping back off the ledge and came through the middle of the quarry and came up by the North East wall.

After this we decided that it was not worth doing another dive. Apparently quite a few others had come to the same conclusion and also called it a day.
