Dorothea & Vivian
December 9th & 10th 2001
I had planned a couple of days “up North” to coincide with a work’s conference that I had to attend.
Dorothea on the Sunday, and I had a lift there in the mini bus that was taking the University BSAC club.
First dive was supposed to be a surface swim to the blue buoy and then down the shot to 28 metres en-route to the gnome garden. Unfortunately Niall had a problem with his ears and so we stopped at 29 metres and then had a look around at this level. We went through the tunnel at 22 metres, twice, before coming back to the landing stage.
For the second dive I was with Chris. I had planned to go to the jib. I found the crane OK and then dropped off the edge to 25 metres. However I thought that I had to go over the drop off again, wrong!!!
As we were going down I couldn’t see any bottom and at 34 metres decided to stop and come back to 25 metres. Apparently I should have turned right and gone down the roadway instead of going over the ledge.
On the second day Andy and I went to Vivian Quarry. It is very small and it is quite easy to see all of it on one dive, which we did. We then did a second dive and had a dig around in one of the corners where a load of scrap had been dumped.
