Introduction

Carers, relatives and friends

Hello!

I am sorry to think that the reason that you have visited this website is likely to be because you have a relative or friend who has had a stroke. I hope that they will make a good recovery.

A stroke is a devastating experience which may lead to many problems including impaired reading skills. Commonly, somone who has difficulty in understanding the written word and in reading aloud, will have some degree of difficulty in understanding the spoken word, in speaking, in writing and with numeracy. All strokes are different and the degree of these language problems will combine in different ways in different people. Most people who have had a stroke will show some spontaneous recovery. Usually, however, they will also need to work on their recovery and this is where Reading Again comes in!

Reading Again is a set of audio tapes and accompanying booklets. The programme is very easy to use and enables some clients to work on their problems independently; in their own homes and at any convenient time. There will be other clients who will need some help either from a carer or from a speech and language therapist.

To ensure that the programme is appropriate for your relative/friend (this may include some people who have suffered other causes of brain injury) ideally the advice of a speech and language therapist should be sought before purchasing a set/sets. Where this is not possible, experimenting with the sample package is strongly recommended. Please feel free to contact the author if further advice is required.

Special low prices apply to purchases made on behalf of individuals with dyslexia/aphasia. When purchasing on behalf of a group, please see the price list and order form that applies to Speech and Language Therapy Departments.
