Sunday 20th May 2007 Home to
Middlewich
A real top of the table clash, the whole season resting on this
game Tarporley nesding to win to stay in the chase Middlewich
needing a draw or win for the league title. Tarporley had the
impetus in the opening spell and a rash challenge on Jonny Kettle saw
Tarporley awarded a penalty. This was duly dispatched by the
captain of the day Steve Lightfoot to put Wanderers in front
1-0. A few more chances fell to Wanderers but no chance in the
score. Middlewich also having one good opportunity in the first
half
Second half showed saw the game open up more, Tarporley squandered more opportunities
than Middlewich despite one frantic scramble and an excellent save
from Groomo we kept our end clean Jonny Kettle side footed a
cross from Tom Kershaw, whilst not the greatest goal we have scored
this season it was one of the best to see. Final score at 2-0
Managers comments: Pitch again played well, not a classic game but our
grit and determination showed today well done boys a performance to be
proud of

Friday 18th May 2007 Home to
Sandbach
A windy evening with Tarporley playing against the wind in the
first half. Tarporley were finding it difficult to be consistent
with the play but were creating breaks Jonny Kettle netting the
first. Sandbach capatised from some poor defending at a corner
and leveled. Rob Sinnott put us back in front and Rick Moore from a
free kick increased the lead further, half time 3-1 in Tarporley
favour
Second half showed what an influence the wind had and play was much easier for
our defenders, further goals from Rick Moore, Tom Marley and Tom
Kershaw saw the final score at 6-1
Managers comments: Pitch now in great condition but wind spoiled the
football Well done boys concentration difficult to maintain and
this has given us an opportunity.

Tarporley had almost a full squad available today, just missing
captain Marvel and Tom Marley. Serious rain on a hard pitch made
conditions difficult and no official ref compounded the
event. Thanks to Dave McNeil of vintage 2005-6 season who took
the middle for us. The gamewas close and we were not being allowed to
play our flowing fotball. The much improved Wistaston side were
here for a game and were not going to make it easy. Tarporley
were a bit edgy but it was Tarporley who made the first breakthrough a
cross from Tom Burrows beat the whole of the Wistaston defence and was
buried by Rick Moore. A couple of good save and some last ditch
tackles kept the score at 1-0 in Tarporley favour at half time.
Second half Wistaton began to play better football and following a ten minute
spell of good football, scored the equaliser from a long shot.
It was tarporley now on the back foot with the impetus in Wistastons
favour. It was hurting the Wanderers players and slowly they
began to claw back into it with 6 minutes left ion the clock it was
Matt the Dips Williams who put us back in front with a great headed
goal from a corner. Playing a little easier we broke from the back
with a neat ball to Jonny Kettle who proceded to play a great
one- too with Rick Moore who netted our third and put the game safe.
Managers comments: Pitch still hard but now slipy too. Thanks to
Dave McNeil for refereeing todays game and a big thanks to all the
players from both sides who were pretty grown up with the situation (scary
I know but there we are) good performances from key players again
today to keep us in the chase. Biggest positive was our courage
to pull this one back when it looked if it was out of our hands well
done to all.

Sunday 22nd April 2007 Away to
Sandbach Town Dynamoes
Tarporley's squad today was scheduled to be improved from last week and the weather meant the game was likely to be played at a faster pace. Again a close game and again it was Tarporley who broke the deadlock. Jonny Kettle and Jimmy Guest creating a nice trinagular game opening upo a space fro Jonny to shoot. Tarporley just having the edge but not taking real control a few more opportunities arose but we failed to test the keeper then a couple of minutes before half time a long clearance and a bad bounce put Matt Burrows in trouble, the bigger stiker muscling him out of the way. Half time 1-1
Second half was much the same, the odd frustration on the side line but generally very positive. It was a potential frustration as Rob Sinnott turned his man created the space to cross then didn't, keeping the ball longer he was forced backwards and then having looked up and seeining the keeper at the middle of the goal he picked his spot executed a perfect bending shot to beat the keeper at the back post, Ok he hit the cross and hoped fro the best but the end result was still a goal. The Sandbach keeper pulled of a couple of good saves to keep the score to 2-1 but it has to be said Sandbach were never out of the game final score at 2-1 in Tarporleys favour.
Managers comments: Pitch still hard and bouncy but a few notable performances today, Tom Burrows having one of his best games as did Tom Kershaw. Jonny Kettle in midfield also gave us a bit more than we have had in the last week or too, Jcko as sound as ever. A special thanks to Steve Lightfoot standing in for the suffering keeper.

Tarporley's squad today was at it barest again only 11 players
available and the opposition could still take over our league position. The weather was very warm, much to hot to make a real game of it. The game was played at a slow pace and was slightly in Tarporleys favour it was Tom Kershaw who broke the duck. More chances came and went but it was Sandbach that pulled one back. Half time 1-1
Second half saw Tarporley again just edging Sandbach and goals from Rob Sinnot put us back infront, Charlie Briscoe increased the lead further to put the score at 3-1. Groomo making a number of good takes and got a great hand to an effort in the last minute to keep the score at 3-1 in Tarporleys favour.
Managers comments: Difficult conditions with the temperature well above normal, we commanded the game but Sandbach never let us away. The stretched squad performed well, good work from the back four and midfield kept us in it and a goal apiece from the forwards, net result good all round effort, well done

Nantwich Town (district cup semi final)
Tarporley's squad today was at it barest, only 11 players
available and against good opposition. Unless we changed our
performance from previous weeks the score could have been embarrassing.
The effort however was some what improved and to a player all put in a
110%. The game was fast with good football being played by both
sides. It was Tarporley who took the lead in the 20th minute
when Charlie B pounced on a parried Rick Moore shot. Groomo
looked good in our net a collected a number of potential goals
cleanly. Half time 1-0 to Tarporley
Second half saw Tarporley have to change Groomo and Briscoe because of
injury. We started well and squanderd two golden opportunities
in the first 5 minutes, 3 minutes after that we were 2-1 down and
Nantwich were in the driving seat. Tarporley stuck to there plan and
began working the game back in there favour only to be dealt a blow
with a third goal from Nantwich. Not a team to give up we battled on
and were denied at least half a dozen times from great saves before we
pulled one back with 5 to go. The traffic was all one way and
Nantwich hung on to the lead.
Managers comments: What a difference a week makes, that
performance made me proud. We were strapped for players as we kicked
of and picked up injuries in the game but did we battle well

Tarporley came out of the blocks fastest today just edging the
Sandbach side, Jonny Kettle opening the score. Tarporley now
began to play good football and opened up the Sandbach defence, the
second goal coming from a great piece of football that included some
very good passing well delivered balls and a great finish from Jimmy
Guest, Jonny Kettle netted his second of the day and Al Rowntree
finished the scoring from the first half from the penalty spot. Half time
4-0 to Tarporley
The second half Tarporley sat back and a great save from Groom looked
as though he would keep his clean sheet but Sandbach had other ideas
and a long punt looped over him to leave the final score Tarporley 4
Sandbach 1.

Tarporley started well and peppered the AFC goal area but to AFC
credit they got bodies behind the ball and we saw balls cleared off
the line on a number of occasions. It was a penalty decision that was
converted by Lighty that opened the scoring. Our second goal
however was pure football, a series of good passes picked Jim out wide
who pulled a ball back for the on coming Rick Moore who struck it
firmly passed the keeper. Half time 2-0 to Tarporley
The second half Tarporley stitched up the game with two early goals
from Rick Moore. The sending off of an AFC player who saw red
and lashed out at Al sealed the game. Tarporley made two
substitutes early in the second half the third with 20 minutes
to go. AFC scored a good goal when our defence didn't deal with
a long ball, AFC thinking perhaps there was something in the game,
this was soon a false hope as both Moore and Kettle netted again to
make it 6, a long punt beat Groom but the final score a comfortable
6-2 win
Managers comments: A game that saw all sides of football,
some fantastic pieces of play, some stupidity, a number of silly
mistakes and fun.

Almost back to full strength but not quite, Tom M ill and Al Rowntree
carrying an injury. We started with the breeze in our favour and
had the edge in the first 20 minutes, Rick Moore got onto the end of a
through ball and put us in front. Chances came at both ends both team
being denied by saves or miss hits. Half time Tarporley 1,
Sandbach 0 and just about the right score on balance of play.
The second half Sandbach pushed hard with Tarporley hitting on
the counter, it was one of these counter attacks that looked a certain
goal but Sanbach squeezed the ball away and attacked well riding two
tackles and beating the keeper to level the score at 1-1. It was
Sandbach that had the impetus for the next five minutes but our
upfront threat paid off when Rick Moore netted his second to
make it 2-1. Sandbach kept coming though and were denied an
equiliser when Groomo made a great save. Tarporley soaked up a
lot of pressure and saw a goal disallowed for offside before Quinn
held off two players and slotted passed the keeper with style to make
it 3-1. This just about tied up the game and the last 5 minutes
were uneventful. Final score Tarporley 3 Sandbach Town Dynamoes

Intention to start the same stretched squad who performed so well last
but an injury to Charlie Briscoe let Matt Burrows back in who took the
opportunity well. The dead lock was broken when Rick Moore pounced on
to a long ball and lobbed over the advancing keeper. The game
then leveled out and Haslington got into the game, whilst they didn't
create clear chances they did put us under more pressure then almost
against the run of play Rick netted his second of the day. Some chances
came and went but half time saw the score remain Tarporley 2,
Haslington 0
The second half we had wind with us so we no longer suffering from the
long Haslington Kicks, Wanderers forced a corner which was delivered
long to the back post, Tom Kershaw pounced to make it 3-0, a further 2
goals from Jonnie Kettle saw a comfortable 5-0 win
Managers comments: A game of mixed components, some quality
football, slack passing, missed opportunities, touches of brilliance

Sunday 7th January 2007 Away to
Middlewich League
Stretched squad and torrid conditions saw Tarporley V Middlewich for
the third time this season and despite feeling we should have had our
share of the points we not yet bagged any. We played uphill
against the wind and defending the worst area. The opening 10
minutes was promising but as the time went on Middlewich worked there
way in to the game capatilising on the keepers long kick and a strong
playing centre forward. Our keeper doing well collecting some
difficult balls, half time saw us all square 0-0
The second half saw us with the advantages, the wind dropped a little
so not quite so good as in the first half but still enough for us to
dominate. The Middlewich strong keeper collected many good
crosses cutting down the dangers and limiting our opportunities final
score 0 - 0
Managers comments: A fair result overall, but about time we
had a bit of luck against Middlewich. Defence and midfield in
top form but the forward part of our play didn't match the defence.
Good performance from Ben Groom in difficult goal keeping conditions,
excellent play from all the back four, Tom Marley and captain marvel
in the midfield. JK worked hard but no reward for his efforts

Full squad and playing at Little Budworth pitch. Tarporley started
strong but not as cohesive as we should have been and were punished
when a well played through ball resulted in a penalty. The
Wanderers were in charge but not really creating then a good run from
Jim Guest saw him fetched down and Lighty stepped up to level the
score, a few minutes later it was Jimmy who put Tarporley into
the lead. Half time 2-1 up.
The second saw us score a quick goal with a well delivered ball to Rob
Sinnott who converted off the post, Lighty added a header from a
corner and Jonny Kettle netted the fifth. A new pairing in the
midfield coupled with some very relaxed play saw Goostrey score a
second and indeed a 3 rd right on time. The final score Tarporley 5

Again down players due to injury or unavailability but the squad was strong
. Within minutes we could have opened the account but it was
about 10 minutes coming when Jonny K crossed to meet Al Rowntree who
headed home. Defensively we mopped up everything they could
deliver but wre not netting easily at the other end, then in quick
succession Jonny K and Tom Kershaw bagged one a piece to take us
in at half time 3-0 up.
The second half an additional goals for Jonny Kettle and Al
Rowntree plus a pair for Tom Kershaw saw our Tally at 7, a lack of
concentration from midfield allowed Sandbach in for a conciliation
goal. The final score

We were down a couple of players due to injury but were expecting to
field a strong team. The first 10 minutes we played free flowing
football picking all the simple options and could have found ourselves
3 or 4 up however it was a strange Jonny Kettle goal that broke the
deadlock. It was the same player who added a second to take us
in at half time 2-0 up.
The second half we were a little better and moved the ball better this
lead to further goals for Jonny Kettle, and a goal each for Rob
Sinnott and Jimmy Guest, the final score AFC Wistaston 1,Tarporley 6

This was again going to be tough and the second time we had no ref ,

looked to have the edge and were creating the best of the opportunities
but it was Middlewich who took the lead. Oppertunities came and went
but half
time score was 1-0 to Middlewich.
The second half meant both teams had a lot to play for, probably
against the run of play Middlwich extended there lead but they must be
given some credit for there defensive efforts denying many clean
chances, a bad two handed push gave Tarporley a penalty that was well
dispatched by Steve Lightfoot but we were unable to break through for
a second, the final score Tarporley 1 Middlewich Town 2

This threatened to be a close game both of us having lost one game
each. Tarporley started the brighter of the two teams but it was
by no means a one sided event. Our final shot away was not upto
scratch and our defence had to work hard. Some good challenges
from the center two and timely interceptions from the full backs
limited the demand on our keeper but he still had work to do.
Jonny Kettle broke the deadlock running onto a good through ball. Half
time score 1-0.
The second half meant both teams had a lot to play for, Sandbach were
resolute and Rick Moore who looked our best outlet was denied on a
number of occasions by a string of great saves. It was Tom
Marley who bagged our second, this was quickly followed by our third
from Charie Briscoe but still Sandbach didn't give it up and pulled
one back. Rick Moore then broke his duck and netted two quick
goals to leave the final score Tarporley 5 Sandbach Town Dynamoes 1

The second meeting of the season, and whilst our first game was a
classic our performance today was not so glossy. We opened up
well and should have put the game beyond doubt in the first 10 minutes
but the score remained 0-0. Sandbach to be fair were working
hard and competing well, the Tarporley players were not getting there
own way and got caught up with themselves instead of doing what they
are good at. Time ticked by and at half time the deadlock had
not been broken, the score 0-0.
A similar half time talk to last week but not as effective on the
pitch, the deadlock was finally broken when Rob Sinnott got on the end
of a Jonny Kettle cross. We settled our nerves when a second was
added by Rick Moore, a third from Jonny Kettle. We now began to
play a bit and saw another Rick Moore and Jack Heaton goal.
Groomo was also called into action a few time making a great save from
a very well struck free kick to keep a clean sheet. Final result
5-0 to Tarporley

Away to Middlewich Town League
Things started well for Tarporley with two early goals, one from Rick
Moore the other from Jimmy Guest. The game was being played at a
frantic pace that was not conducive of good football. Traporley
conceded a sloppy corner that was made worse when the Tarporley keeper
saw it agonisingly slip through his hands and into the net.
Within minutes of the restart the Middlewich keeper kicked very long,
the only thing our keeper managed was to tip it onto the bar but it
was followed up by the Middlewich attacker. A more confident
Middlewich added to there tally with a great goal. Half time
3-2 to Middlewich.
A half time settling session saw Tarporley come out of the block
meaning, we were more determined and precise with our passing game,
this lead to a number of opportunities that we squandered, were denied
by the wood work or kept out by a string of great saves.
Middlewich resolute defended as if there lives depended on it and the
final result 3-2 to Middlewich

The opening 20 minutes saw Tarporley performing at there best
but with no reward. It was Jimmy Guest who opened the account
with a goal from a corner, yes a corner. Sandbach leveled from a
direct free kick and for a couple of minutes looked as though could
get into the game but it was Tarporley that were on fire with goals
with 2 goals from Rick Moore and a special goal at the end of a great
move from Jimmy Guest. Half time 4-1 to Tarporley.
Nothing to say at half time except how good the performance was, the
second half was another strong performance, but not at the same tempo
as the first half, a penalty from Al Rowntree and a well deserved goal
from Jonny Kettle saw Tarporley final tally of 6, but we also
conceded a penalty in the second half.
Managers comments: Probably the finest example of football
the team has produced, comfortable at the back, strong and full of
running in midfielf and always a threat upfront. A great game for the

Sunday 10th September 2006 Home to AFC Wistaston League
The opening game and our squad was stretched to the limit with only
the bare 11 players available. AFC were one of last years
weaker teams but unlike us they didn't loose players just added a
few. The first half was quite tight, Groomo being forced to make
a couple of good saves, the back 4 were a bit unsettled and we didn't
look as though we would capatilise in front of goal.. It was Tom
Kershaw who broke the deadlock to give the Wanderers the lead.
Injury to Charlie B meant we played out the last 6 minutes with 10
men. Half time 1-0 to Tarporley
At half time Wanderers were forced to change keepers, Charlie into
goal and Groomo went up front. The lead was extended by Groomo
(probably the first keeper to score from the league this season) and
while Tarporley were on top Wistaston were still challenging. A
penalty that was converted by Lighty put the game beyond doubt and Wanderers
saw out the last 10 minutes with ease.e
