** Match Reports Under 16s  South Cheshire Youth League **

Sunday 27th April 2008  Semi final cup V Gist Eagles
Wanderers started well and controlled most of the first half , Downey made one great save and a header from the corner from which Gist scored was there limit of pressure.  Midfield was competitive and  much was cancelled by both sides the one chink being the forward running of Barney and Jamie Ball
Second half we slipped behind in the game and were now second in midfield and cease to create the outlets, conceding from a corner was a bitter pill but Gist certainly had the edge in the second half.

Managers comments:  A very disappointing result following such a promising first half performanc

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Adam HUMERSTONE, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,   Scot ARMSTRONG,  James WITHE,  Elliot CRABTREE,  Dan BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie BALL, Sean RECORD , Jonny STOREY, Matt FRANKS

Todays MOM:  Adam Humberstone, Jamie Ball, just edging the ever solid performances of Bryan Wright, Adam Williams, and Barney Huxtable.

Sunday 20th April 2008  Away to Alsager Town Bullets League
Wanderers picked up again where they left and were denied by the post twice in the opening 10 minutes.  Alsager then showed there quality and the game was end to end, work rate was todays game big winners. The game was evenly balanced and the closest effort was from Alsager when Downy made a good save but was awarded a goal kick.  We lost Adam W just before half time so this would be a test on the back 4 half time 0-0.
Second half saw Fitzy in fine form, matched by Bryan and Humber at the back, Barney working tirelessly in the front line.  We competed well and midfield began to tire but our desire to get something from this very even tight game.  Stick at it we did and ended with a final result of 0-0

Managers comments:  Tough gutsy performance rewarded with a 0-0

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  Chris STUBBS,  Scot ARMSTRONG, ,  James WITHE,  Dan BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie BALL, Elliot CRABTREE, Jonny STOREY,

Todays MOM:  Good battling performances again today but awarded jointly today to Bryan Wrights performance in the back 4 and Barney Stubbs for his shear effort and mileage covered.

Thursday 17th April 2008  Away to Alsager Town Bullets League
Wanderers picked up where they left off on Sunday and played some real quality football.  With a bit more fortune and a goal keeper not in such good form could have been 3-0 up.  A first opportunity for Alsager following a bit of loose midfield play was converted and Alsager were in front another chance for Tarporley and another good save this was followed by some good work from Alsager which was rewarded by a good finish to take them 2-0 up. A good throw and some very determined play from Dan Ball pulled one back half time saw us go in 2-1 down.
A good opening to the second half saw Jamie Ball net his first of the night.  With the score all level Tarporley took control again a nd a great free kick from Scott Armstrong put us 3-2 up. For the next 10 minutes things were comfortable but a decent Alsager side were not that keen to give it up and worked hard to get back in the game and looked to be the stronger of the 2 teams in the last 10 minutes, it was now the turn of Tarporley defence to dig deep which they did and managed to keep the score at 3-2 in Tarporley's favour.

Managers comments:  Out of the blocks well with some great football and great commitment to come back from 2-0

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  Chris STUBBS,  Scot ARMSTRONG, ,  James WITHE,  Dan BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie BALL, Jamie JOHNSTONE, Elliot CRABTREE, Jonny STOREY, Matt FRANKS

Todays MOM:  Some more good performances again today but award today goes to Dan Ball

Sunday 13th April 2008  Away to DaneBank Dynamoes League
Wanderers back in action after a long layoff started as though they meant business.  The pitch was heavy and wet but Tarporley tried to play football and were rewarded after five minutes when Barney Huxtable slotted home the opener. Dan Ball and another Barney Hutbale goal before half time saw us go in 3-0 up.
Second half  started with a flourish and a great Fitzy run was ended with a Jamie Ball goal, Barney then added his third and Tarporley's fifth.  Many more chances came and went, without some terrific goalkeeping from the Dane Bank keeper the score would have been a lot more.  A determined DaneBank side that showed terrific spirit did net a conciliation goal. Final score remained at 5-1.

Managers comments:  A good start again with some quality football in difficult conditions, well done again boys

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Adam HUMBERSTONE , Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  Chris STUBBS,  Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS,  James WITHE,  Barney HUXTABLE, Dan BALL, Jamie BALL, Jamie JOHNSTONE, Sean RECORD, Jonny STOREY

Todays MOM:  Some more good performances again today but award today goes to Adam Humberstone

Sunday 15th March 2008  Away to Crewe Athletic League
Wanderers started sprightly with Scott A dominating midfield and James W running the front line.  Support from an attack minded full back was causing trouble for Crewe that produced a series of corners, it was Elliot C who capatilised with  a header to put us in front.  Ouir lead was not for long as Crewe were awarded a dubious penalty that led to a bit of confusion who was taking it but the score was now 1-1.  The same format resulted in foul on Fitzy that was delivered by Scott for Elliot to pounce on for his second, the third from the head of James Withe from another corner.  Half time 3-1.
Second half  we stalled for a while until we got into the flow a fourth goal was added by Elliot C to complete his hat trick, the fifth came from Jamie Ball who pounced on a cross from Jamie Johnstone, a 6th followed from James Withe, a seventh for Dan Ball and a final goal from Barney Huxtable to finish the game with a final score remained at 8-1.

Managers comments:  A good start and a reward for some tough games, at last a score that reflects the number of chances we create, well done boys

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Chris STUBBS,  Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS,  James WITHE, Elliot CRABTREE,  Barney HUXTABLE, Dan BALL, Jamie BALL, Jamie JOHNSTONE

Todays MOM:  Some more good performances today in particular form midfield who made it quite easy today for the back four and allowed full backs to get forward, a great way to play, today's MOM shared between Scott Armstong and James Withe

Sunday 9th March 2008  Away to Gist Eagles League
Todays opposition are one of the inform teams and the one to have capitalised  on defeats inflicted on Newcastle by ourselves, leapfrogging them in to 2nd spot.  Tarporley started well and could have opened the scoring in the opening 3 minutes.  Some more half chances came and went but the half was dominated by great play and guts alas on 40 minutes a half chance fell to Gist who netted and we went in at half time 1-0 down.
Second half  we again played good quality football but for once poor defending from a corner saw Gist increase the lead.  Wanderers pride was now at stake and they didn't want to give this game up so easily.  15 minutes in to the second half some neat play left James Withe with an opportunity that he duly dispatched to put the score at 2-1.  Within minutes a long free kick from Martin Fizsimons found its way passed the keeper and into the corner of the net score now at 2-2 and everything to play for.  Wanderers had a few half chances with the best dropping to Jonny Storey in the dieing minutes but most of the last 20 minutes of play was cancelled out by each of the teams doing there job well, the closet for Gist was a corner that James D got a hand to and it landed at the foot of a Gist player but J D followed up and blocked the shot. Final score remained at 2-2.

Managers comments:  Some high quality football against good opposition, tremendous effort to come back from 2 down and a sign of our improvement well done boys a good result

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Chris STUBBS,  Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS,  Barney HUXTABLE, James WITHE, Elliot CRABTREE, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Jon STOREY,

Todays MOM:  You lads are making this difficult, some great performances today Adam H, Dan B, James W, Chris S, and Bryan Wright but Todays goes to Adam Williams who edged an excellent Scot Armstrong .

Sunday 2nd March 2008  Away to Crewe FC League
A team with almost identical points and always an interesting game.  Wanderers started well and were completely dominating but failed to score from a variety of chances.  Crewe however managed to net on there only chance of the half.  Wanderers played good football but a series of great saves and numerous misses coupled with some frustration meant we went in at half time 1-0 down.
Second half  saw Tarporley again played the better football but were still frustrated by some very poor decisions but we stuck at our task even when further dissapointed to go a second goal down.  With 25 minutes to play it was Scott Armstrong who struck the first and 15 minutes later Jamie Ball added a second.  Good saves from both keepers meant the score remained at 2-2.

Managers comments:  Some quality football again today but we did get hooked up with opposition, we need to play our own game and if we do the likes of Crewe will not be able to compete, if we don't then  they will take points.  Today's performances were marred by a series of mistakes by all and pent up frustration.  However determination to take a point from this game should not go unnoticed well done

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Adam HUMBERSTONE , Chris STUBBS,  Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS,  Jamie BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, James WITHE, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  Jon STOREY,

Todays MOM:  Again difficult as most key players either made bad mistakes or lost control at some point or other. Great performance by Adam H, Dan Band Chris S. Todays goes to Scot Armstrong just edging Adam W

Sunday 24th February 2008  Home to Newcastle Nomads League
Another high flying team today but almost a full squad to choose from.  Tarporley started with the wind in their favour but were struggling to get the ball into the Newcastle area.  Defensively and in midfield we competed well and limited opportunities, then a great ball from Barney forced the Newcastle keeper to make an error that was pounced on by Jamie Ball. This gave us a bit of belief and we challenged the game more, a couple of potential opportunities were missed and we went in at half time 1-0 up.
Second half  saw Tarporley playing against the breeze, as time ticked on Wanderers belief increased, the wind dropped but the rain started.  Both sides were competing strongly in midfield, both sets of forwards working back and defenece getting behind the ball and putting a foot in so chances were very limited.  A good pick out from Barney set James Withe free who finished in style. This just about sorted the game and we held out for the last 5 minutes to take three valuable points and a clean sheet. Final score 2-0.

Managers comments:  Some quality football again today again against good opposition.  Today's big performances were in midfield and the forwards.  Midfield without exception worked hard and battled well, high quality from Scott, Chris, Dan B, Withe and JJ, couple with hard working attacker in Jamie B and Barney meant the back four had less to deal with than some other weeks, however they were up for everything that was sent at them

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Chris STUBBS,  Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS,  Jamie BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, James WITHE, Jamie JOHNSTONE, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Jon STOREY,

Todays MOM:  Not making this easy for me are you boys.  Great performances from both the Balls, Scott A, Chris S, Sean R to name a few but today it goes to Martin Fitzsimons.

Sunday 17th February 2008  Home to South Cheshire Stars League
Back in action after missing 2 Sundays and with only 12 available players, and playing top of the league, this one was going to be tough.  Tarporley started very well and were managing the difficult conditions well.  Our football was crisp and well structured, a pure pleasure but one lapse cost a goal, this was quickly leveled by Martin Fitzsimons who pounced on to a keeper error from a free kick.  Chances from both sides were limited in principal due to the defending qualities of both teams and hard battling in midfield.
Second half  saw Tarporley pick up where they left off  and score one of the best goals we have scored.  A combined series of interlinked passes, great movement saw James Withe out wide and deliver the killer cross for defenders with Jamie Ball pouncing on to it to put us in the lead.  South Cheshire were keen not to drop points and picked up there game as our limited squad  began to struggle.  The guts shown today meant we hung on to collect a well earned point, final score 2-2.

Managers comments:  Some of the best football we have played against such strong opposition, combine this with the guts shown by the back 4 and the chasing back of the forwards and midfield it made it a great game and a performance to be proud of.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Chris STUBBS,  Dan Ball, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Elliot CRABTREE, Jamie BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, James WITHE,

Todays MOM:  Today again very difficult, performances of note, Martin Fitzsimons, Sean Record, Barney Huxable, Dan and Jamie Ball but just edged by Adam Williams whose shear guts and determination is rubbing off on the rest of the squad, well done all.

Sunday 27th January 2008  Home to Crewe FC Cup 1/4 final
Back in action after a 2 week break because of the weather, Tarporley started well and were playing some very good neat football and were denied by a few bad bounces on a bobbley pitch. The continued pressure showed and a Martin Fizsimons moment of magic from a corner put us in the lead.  The lead was further increased from a great goal from Barney Huxtabale.  One momentary lapse of concentration cost a goal just before half time.
Second half  saw Crewe come out with vengeance, they were missing midfield and hitting long, this made it very difficult  for Tarporley who had whether the storm a great save from Downey helped no end with this along with some very good tackles from all the back four.  An unbelievable solo run matched by the finish from Barney Huxtable saw us increase the lead. Crewe's heads dropped a little and Tarporley took advantage when Scott Armstrong split the defence with a good run and great cross for Jon Storey to tap in.  The game was now beyond Crewe but they stuck at to to make it difficult as they could, final score 4-1.

Managers comments:  Some real quality football played today and a gutsy performance to match the quality.  Some great performances throughout the pitch and I think a well deserved victory.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  James WITHE, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Elliot CRABTREE, Jamie BALL, Barney HUXTABLE, Chris STUBBS, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  Jon STOREY, Adam Humberstone,

Todays MOM:  Today it was just to hard to select and has to go to the whole squad.

Sunday 6th January 2008  Away to South Cheshire Stars League
Today's opposition topped the table and were proving to be very consistent.  Tarporley started as if they were still on the Christmas break, we were second best to every ball and were punished by slack marking, a poor penalty and standing still at a set piece. 3-0 down at half time.
Second half  we looked a different side and made much of the running, when Elliot C met a well delivered free kick to put the score at  3-1 it was Wanderers in control, a few good opportunities were squandered then we were dealt a bitter pill by not clearing our lines from a corner and a well struck shot we saw ourselves 5-1 down.  Tarporley were still playing well and scored another consolation goal, final score 5-2.

Managers comments:  A poor 1st half with lapses of concentration costing us dear.  Second half we did show some grit  and our performance was much better.  Good performances throughout the game for some and very good second halves from Scot A and James W.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Chris STUBBS, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  Elliot CRABTREE, Jamie BALL, Jon STOREY, James WITHE, Adam Humberstone,

Todays MOM:  Again a hard choice but today its shared  Bryan Wright, Adam Williams, James W and Scott A

Sunday 16th December 2007  Home to Crewe FC League
Today would be a tough game, Crewe on the back of a very good result and already beating us once this season already.  Crewe showed they meant business and stretched the back four a few time before Elliot Crabtree broke his duck and netted his 1st of the season, Dan Ball added a second and Tarporley were now in control, an uncharacteristic misunderstanding between our keeper and centre back let Crewe in for an oppertunity which they score from, half time 2-1 to Tarporley.
Second half  was again very tight, Crewe pushing on and the Wanderers struggling a little in the middle, some good running from Elliot C saw him with a half chance, a shot from Dan Ball sailed just over the bar but when James Withe's opportunity came it was dispatched with style, final score 3-1.

Managers comments:  A steady performance against a difficult side, our football didn't flow as well today but there were some strong contenders for MOM, Bryan Wright and Adam Williams in the back 4, Scott A an Matt F in midfield and Dan Ball and Jamie Johnstone from the wide positions. Overall a very good 3 points from tough game.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT,  Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Chris STUBBS, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  Elliot CRABTREE, Jon STOREY, James WITHE, Adam Humberstone,

Todays MOM:  Again a hard choice but today it goes to Bryan Wright, just edging Scot A and Dan B

Sunday 2nd December 2007  Home to Crewe Athletic League
Tarporley started with the wind in their favour and for much of the half pinned Crewe in their own half, Barney Huxtable opened the scoring and a second was added by Jon Story, a couple of good saves stopped the lead being increased further  2-0 at half time but a lot still to do.
Second half  showed the difference in ability, Wanderers were still playing neat football and forcing Crewe back creating some half good chances before a really well worked piece of football set Matt Franks up to finish off with a great strike, a fourth was added by Dan ball to make the score 4-0.  Crewe squeezed the ball home for a conciliation goal in the dying minutes of the game, final score 4-1.

Managers comments:  A quality performance today, we out competed in all areas and certainly out played in difficult conditions well done boys, thanks for making the selections for next week so hard

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Jon STOREY, Dan BALL, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  James WITHE, Adam Humberstone,

Todays MOM:  Again a hard choice but for all the right reasons, particular performances of note were Dan Ball, Adam Humberstone, Jamie Johnstone and the back four but today's MOM goes to Scott A who pushed the game to the opposition.

Sunday 25th November 2007  Home to Betley Cup
Tarporley started sprightly and quickly found themselves in front  from a Jamie Johnstone strike, the second quickly followed from Barney Huxtable following some good play on the right hand side, Fitzy added a third with a great strike and Jamie Johnstone bagged his second of the day to make it 4-0 at half time.
Second half this week saw us take the more relaxed approach and we stopped doing the easy thing however further goals from James Withe, Scott Armstong and Jon Storey put the game well out of reach for Betley

Managers comments:  Not a classic we played well within our limits and id show some real quality in patches during the first half

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  James WITHE, Adam Humberstone, Jon STOREY

Todays MOM:  for a second week in a row a difficult selection but today is shared between Barney Huxtable who caused so much trouble in the first half and Jamie Johnstone who's touch let him down from time to time today but impressed me with his work rate.

Sunday 11th November 2007  Home to Newcastle Nomads League
Tarporley needed to pick up where they left off, we had not taken any points from the top sides but were running them tight. We did not start at our best but was settling down when an uncharacteristic mistake cost us dear and we conceded from a well struck shot.  This was enough to kick start Tarporley and we began to apply some pressure, our wide play was pure quality, good delivery from the midfield and excellent running from the forwards continued to put Newcastle under pressure.  A well delivered free kick from Matt Franks was spilled by the keeper and Fitzy stepped forward to nod it in We ended the half all square at 1-1
Second half this week saw us take the game by the scruff of the neck and drive on Newcastle we were denied the lead from 2 or 3 good saves, a cross bar and a slip.  Downey needed to be at his best as he looked to have been beaten by a dreaded cross again, but this time his finger tips was enough to put the ball out of Newcastle reach final score 1-1

Managers comments:  A top class performance today by all.  Downey alert to all off his line well, Fitzy stopping their biggest threat playing Adam and Bryan well timed tackles and good understanding, Sean 110%, JJ his best game of the season, Elliot C more work done today than for a few weeks, Scott A back to his very best, Chris showing he can battle and play, Matt Franks putting in plenty, Barney frightened the defence with quality running, James W battling and running and Adam H in a midfield role, tracked back and drove forward.  Well done gents a well deserved result, but I think we were worth the 3 points today

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS (capt), Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG, Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE,  James WITHE, Adam Humberstone

Todays MOM:  Very difficult one to pick today but it goes to Scott Armstrong who showed me today what he can do

Sunday 4th November 2007  Away to Newcastle Nomads League
Tarporley were in good form today against a very good Newcastle side, Tension was high on both teams and both were struggling to break the other down.  It was Newcastle that created the best opportunities in the first half but Downey was not going to be easily beaten today. We ended the half all square at 0-0
Second half was saw us increase the goal pressure and it was us that hit the bar from a well struck Matt Franks free kick but we were finally brocken down from a well worked Newcastle move.  Tarporley however were back at it, further shots from Jonny Storey, Mat Franks, Adam Williams Scott Armstrong and Elliot Crabtree could not level the score.  In the last minute an innocuous cross from Newcastle was our final undoing as it looped over Downey and into the net the final score 2-0 in Newcastles favour

Managers comments:  A good performance today against good opposition, good performances from Matt Franks, Adam Williams, Bryan Wright, James Withe and James Downey

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE, Dan BALL, James WITHE, Jon STOREY, Adam Humberstone

Todays MOM:  Matt Franks, Bryan Wright

Sunday 27th October 2007  Away to Dane Bank Dynamos League
Tarporley had a squad of 14 today, the only change to the starting squad was Bryan Wright who came in for Adam H. We started slowly but took the lead from a Matt Franks corner, this time from Martin Fitzsimons, a second goal from the same combination but this time a free kick and a third was added from Chris Stubbs.
Second half was saw us increase the goal tally at regular intervals in the flowing order, Dan Ball, Barney Huxtable twice, Jon Storey, Barney again then James Withe final score 9-0

Managers comments:  Not a patch on our last performance but at least we scored goals today

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE, Dan BALL, James WITHE, Jon STOREY

Todays MOM:  Martin Fitzsimons

Sunday 14th October 2007  Home to South Cheshire Stars League
Tarporley were against very tough opposition today and a healthy squad of 15 had diminished to 11 by kick off.  Tarporley started well and competed well right across the pitch and it was Tarporley who struck first when Adam Williams steered home a great corner from Matt Franks.  Tarporley continued to play great football and dealing with the pace of the South Cheshire Stars.  A great finish saw them level just before half time.
Second half was saw us go a goal behind when a shot was deflected to beat Downey.  A couple of more great saves from James D and one or two timely tackles kept South Cheshire at bay.  Tarporley were not without efforts themselves

Managers comments:  The best 80 minutes we have played, tough opposition and we were the better team, we even looked as though we could score today.  Very solid performances form every player.  By choice this squad would start next week no matter who was available.  Very well done gents but you have set yourselves a new standard.  If we could repeat this on a weekly basis our league position could easily be turned on it head

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Barney HUXTABLE, Jamie JOHNSTONE

Todays MOM:  The whole squad, best performance ever

Sunday 7th October 2007  Away to Crewe Athletic League
Tarporley needed to pick up some points today, despite playing well against Gist we were not rewarded with anything.  Today performance proved to be of the same vane.  Some great football, ripping the Crewe defence apart but shots went wide, straight t the keeper, stubbed or closed out.
Second half was more of the same, clean cut chances wasted.  Final score 1-0 to Crewe FC.

Managers comments:  Again great football but no reward, we must score goals to win a game, very disappointing

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Chris STUBBS, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Jon STOREY, Barney HUXTABLE,  Dan BALL, James WITHE

Todays MOM:  Bryan Wright

Sunday 30th September 2007  Home to Gist Eagles League
Tarporley were against familiar opposition today so knew it would be a tough physical game.  Wanderers started well playing great football but were punished in the first 5 minutes for one sloppy piece of defending.  Back on top again and we were denied an equaliser by the woodwork. A second mistake saw us go further behind. Again we were denied a goal by the woodwork.  A half that Tarporley won in terms of football and possession but were a second best in the goals front.
Second half was saw us slip away a little and the physical size of Gist gave them an edge, a third goal for Gist put them strongly in the driving seat but it was the defiance of Tarporley from a well delivered Matt Franks free kick that was by a header by Adam Williams.  Final score 3-1 in Gist favour.

Managers comments:  A great foot-balling performance but there were a couple of the good players not at there best and the edge that most deserved did not come off.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Jake MOORE, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Jon STOREY, Barney HUXTABLE, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Dan BALL James WITHE

Todays MOM:  Adam Williams and Matt Franks

Sunday 23rd September 2007  Away to Crewe Athletic League
Tarporley were against new opposition and at a new pitch, we started straight from the blocks and had Crewe on the defensive but were not creating clear opportunities. The defence needed to stay on there toes as Crewe did look strong on the attack.  Not sure if it was us the ball or the pitch but we struggled to string passes together.  A number of half chances came and went but no score. Again back 4 looked solid with Jake taking the lead role in midfield.
Second half was a similar type of game but we did make the breakthrough in the 65th minute when Jon Storey opened up his league goal stats for the season.  A few more opportunities to make it comfortable passed us by and a few very timely tackles at the other end stopped the score being levelled.

Managers comments:  Not  a classic in football terms and no where near the game of last week, our passing and movement was not to our usual standard but we did work hard to get bodies behind the ball, tracking midfielders today was good not something we can say has been natural to us.  When we combine this work rate with the passing game we know we have then its going to be a great day.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Jake MOORE, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), Matt FRANKS, Jon STOREY, Barney HUXTABLE, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Dan BALL

Todays MOM:  Jake Moore, showed passion, aggression and will to win well done Jake

Sunday 16th September 2007  Home to Alsager Town Bullets League
Tarporley kick off the new season as under 16s in Division1, a first for this team so no easy ride this season.  A stretched squad due to illness and injuries but strong.  We started well and competed well in a great 1st half, Jake performing well in midfield as was the back 4, one or two special tackles from Adam W, Barney and Jon S stretching the opposition .  Half time at 0-0 and a number of half chances not a bad opening 40 mins.
Second half started in similar vane but Alsager worked there way into the game and managed to break our defence.  Tarporley worked there way back into the game and thought we had leveled the score when Fitzy netted a spill from the keeper but only to see it ruled out for offside

Managers comments:  A good performance from all and we were very unlucky not to have something from our opening fixture.  We must build on this if we want to make a success of our 1st season in top flight.

TODAYS SQUAD
James DOWNEY, Sean RECORD, Martin FITZSIMONS, Adam WILLIAMS, Bryan WRIGHT, Elliot CRABTREE, Jake MOORE, Scot ARMSTRONG (capt), James WITHE, Jon STOREY, Barney HUXTABLE, Adam HUMBERSTONE, Dan BALL

Todays MOM:  Take your pick today a number of good performances
