Sunday 3rd May 2009  Away to Cheshire Blades Eagles U17/18 League
Back to our Sunday performances today, lethargic, someone else's  job and if it hadn't been for a few that dug deep we would have come away with nothing.  Thanks to those who did work tirelessly we twice came from behind with strikes from Jonny Oates then a great Dan Ball through ball was pounced on by Jonny Oates who finished his best of the day to complete his hat trick,  and put us in front for the first time in the game. Scott Armstrong put the game beyond doubt with the fourth

Tuesday 28th April 2009  Home to Macc Boys  U17/18 League
Another top class effort we were competitive played good football and worked very hard for each other, this is a great combination and we produced a shock taking the lead with a fabulous worked goal from the defence through midfield and a neat Jonny Oates finish.  We were not able to hold out against a very strong Macc Boys  but did finish with a very credible 2-1 defeat

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, James Withe,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Chris Stubs,  Shaun Record, Scott Armstrong, Dan Ball, Matt Franks, Jamie Ball, Jonny Oates, Barney Huxtable,  Jonny Story,  Adam Williams

Todays MOM:  Team performance, matched the semi if not better.

Sunday 26th April 2009  Away to Holmes Chapel U17/18 League
A good performance today, we played some quality football and conducted ourselves well.  We also created plenty of chances, an all round good performance with a great free kick from Matt Franks, extremely unlucky not to come away with at least a point today

Sunday 18th April 2009  Home to Holmes Chapel U17/18 League
We started slowly but still looked better than our last game despite going 3-0 down in the opening 14 minutes. The guts we had shown in earlier games kicked in and we got our selves back in to the game firstly from the spot following a foul on Jonny Oates which was converted by Scott Armstrong and then a great worked goal and class finish from Dan Ball.  By half time we were 3-2 down and in charge but had lost Fitzy to injury.
Second half we continued where we left off and created some great chances but couldn't level.  The longer the game went the more confident Holmes Chapel became and scored a 4th despite the heroics of stand in keeper James Withe , this was followed by two chances for Wanderers then we suffered our second injury of the day.  Final score 5-2 in favour of Holmes Chapel.

Managers comments:   A big step in the right direction and some good football played, we created enough chances to have taken something despite our poor start and if we had sorted this to then points were there for taking

TODAYS SQUAD
James Withe, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Adam Humberstone,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Chris Stubs,  Scott Armstrong, Dan Ball, Matt Franks, Jonny Oates, Barney Huxtable, Jamie Ball, Jonny Story,

Todays MOM:  Chris Stubbs, Barney Huxtable.

Sunday 4th April 2009  Home to Cheshire Blades Nantwich U17/18 League
Again a difference in the week, we didn't have a team today just 11 people on a pitch, a string of very poor performances meant we got what we deserved, nothing..
Apologies to those few that did work hard and I am sure you were as disappointed as me, for those that know they under performed, reflect on attitude and effort, the team is not sustainable if we continue like this.

Managers comments:   A big disappointment following such a great result last week, special thanks to James Withe who was outstanding in between the sticks, highlights were the goals from Fitzy and Jonny Oates

TODAYS SQUAD
James Withe, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Adam Humberstone,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Chris Stubs,  Scott Armstrong, Dan Ball, Matt Franks, Jonny Oates, Elliot Crabtree, Jonny Story,

Todays MOM:  James Withe.

Sunday 29th March 2009  Home to South Cheshire Stars U17/18 League Cup semi final
What a difference from the 15th March, today the "team" were completely together and from the first meant business.  Our first half performance matched anything we have ever produced.  Despite some tremendous football both teams were denied by the woodwork and some good saves.  Wanderers had the edge but no reward for the effort.
Second half started similar but Stars began to get more into the game having changed there structure and took the lead with a tremendous goal.  Wanderers were not going to give up this week though and a great battle between the teams followed, a string of good save from the Stars keeper and timely tackles from Tarporley saw the time tick away. With 5 minutes to go Wanderers took the risk and went to 3 at the back and Fitzy pushed into midfield.  Wanderers looked to have the edge in terms of fitness and this combination paid off with an equaliser from Martin Fitzsimons on 88 minutes.
Extra time and Wanderers were back in control creating the better of the chances in the first half and again not converting it to goals.  The second half of extra time continued in the same vane and it was Scott Armstrong that wriggled his way through to finally beat the inform Stars keeper. With 1and 1/2 minutes left on the clock a serious injury to a Stars player held up the game for 25 minutes. In the end we moved pitch to see out the clock, Wanderers were switched on for this and never lost a ball finally winning 2-1.

Managers comments:   A fantastic team effort and a real pleasure to watch and manage.  I think this was the first time the team has produced what I have known we are capable off.  Superb performance and a new standard to measure yourseves against.

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Sean Record,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Chris Stubs,  Scott Armstrong, Dan Ball, Matt Franks, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, James Withe, Jonny Story, Adam Humberstone

Todays MOM:  Much to difficult to select today so goes to the whole "TEAM".

Sunday 15th March 2009  Home to South Cheshire Stars
The first half this week was a very tight affair, almost all the play in midfield with both defences picking up the bits, the main threats from corners.
Second half started similar but Stars began to overrun midfield especially on there left, it was this exploitation  and failure to stick at the midfield task that resulted in 2 goals. Wanderers changed shape to combat this but then conceded on the left, final score 3-0 to Stars

Managers comments:   A disappointing day, and while mistakes were made in all departments the most disappointing bit of all was we got on each others backs, we do not do this in any circumstances and its even worse if you are trying to switch the blame from yourself to someone else.  We all need to take an "Honest" look at ourselves, late nights and drinking do effect your games, and I could list almost to a man who has and who hasn't so don't believe its unnoticed.  If we want to win such games it relies on the players performing at the top of there game.

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Sean Record,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Elliot Crabtree,  Scott Armstrong, Dan Ball, Chris Stubbs, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, James Withe

Todays MOM:  Chris Stubbs.

Sunday 8th March 2009  Home to Cheshire Blades Wistaston
Wanderers today started the game very strongly, and should have taken the lead on four occasions but failed to do so.  Wistaton on the other hand had two opportunities and scored both.  Hard working Jonny Oates was making some headway but we were unable to make the impact we needed.
Second half Wanderers worked hard and were rewarded with a goal when a good free kick was met by Adam Williams on the back post ad steered it past the keeper.  The closing 10 minutes  were in Tarporleys favour and we were unlucky not to get an equaliser

Managers comments:   A mixed bag today, some elements of genius, combined with series of mistakes a whole mixed bag

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Adam Humbserstone,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Elliot Crabtree,  Scott Armstrong, Matt Franks,  Dan Ball, Chris Stubbs, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, Jamie Ball,   Sean Record, Jonny Storey, James Withe,

Todays MOM:  Today this goes jointly to Bryan Wright, never put a foot wrong.

Sunday 1st March 2009  Home to Betley
Wanderers today started a game for the 1st time with Scott Armstrong in the squad, we were also shy on our keeper and a defender all at Wembley.  Wanderers started sprightly playing with the slight slope and with the wind. A shot from the left hand side was parried by the Betley keeper directly into the patch of Jonny Oates, who side footed his first of the day. The second came from a good free kick delivered in to the danger area, a glancing header by the defender under pressure found its way into the net.  Betley stuck to there task and have to be admired for there resilience but were unable to create clear chances.  James Withe as stand in keeper was distributing well and a sharp movement down the left side sprung Dan Ball who finished in style.  Jonny Oates ended the 1st half  with two quick goals to give him another hat trick.
Second half Wanderers were now playing with 3 at the back, a hard working Jamie ball filling the gap and also doing a great job going forward. It was Jamie Ball on one of his runs that delivered a great cross that was met by Jonny Storey to open his scoring for the season, when Betley just looked to be getting into the game two great saves from Bryan Wright who was the keeper for the second half and a few very timely tackles kept them at bay, Tarporleys score was added to when Fitzy nodded down a cross that the keeper got a hand to but couldnt hold it out.  The game was rounded up with a solo effort from Elliot Crabtree who took full advantage of the gap created by a Jamie Ball run, final score 8-0 in favour of Wanderers

Managers comments:   A business like performance today, we quietly got on with it and were fortunate not to rue squandered chances.  Thanks to the players who volunteered to take a turn in nets, great to see Jamie Ball have such a fantastic 20 minute spell in midfield and a real competitive streak in Matt Franks

TODAYS SQUAD
James Withe, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Adam Humbserstone,  Martin Fitzsimons,  Elliot Crabtree,  Matt Franks,  Dan Ball, Chris Stubbs, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, Jamie Ball,   Jonny Storey,

Todays MOM:  Today this goes jointly to Adam Humberstone and Chris Stubbs.

Sunday 22nd February 2009  Away to Cheshire Blades Wistaston
In form opposition today, opening 5 minutes Wanderers looked good but Wistaston , forced there way into the game and were causing trouble with long throws. A call for the ball being out fell on deaf ears and Wanderers were punished. Tarpoley stuck at there guns and a good cross found Barney Huxtable at the back pots which he finished in style to put the score all level.  This is how the score remained until half time.
Second half Wanderers were now playing with a bit more determination and limiting the throws that were causing so much trouble, this renewed vigor paid dividends and another good cross field ball was found by Dan Ball who put us ahead.  Wanderers now looked comfortable but were dealt a bitter blow when the ref awarded a penalty in favour of Wistaton.  As the game went on the performance from both sides was flat and options were limited but 6 minutes from time Wistaton did deliver a good corner that found its way into the net.  Against a normal team in a game like this it would have been a winner but Tarporley wanted something out of this and a formation change forced an error which found James Withe who dispatched a superb shot to beat the keeper and level the score at 3-3

Managers comments:   Not our finest footballing performance but certainly our most determined to come back in such a flat game with 6 minutes on the clock.  A special display for me as manager and when we couple our football ability with this guts on a regular basis it will be time for opposition to watch out

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean Record, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Martin Fitzsimons,  Elliot Crabtree,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Chris Stubbs, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, James Withe,   Adam Humberstone,

Todays MOM:  Today this goes to Martin Fitzsimons, a real determination to keep this game live.

Sunday 15th February 2009  Away to Betley
Today's ref didn't show so the Betley manager refereed the game.  Wanderers started well and showed some good touches but initially got frustrated at not being able to break down the Betley side.  It was Jonny Oates who broke the deadlock and once the second and third had been added by Martin Fitzsimmons and Jamie Ball then Wanderers were in control.  A further goal from Jonny Oates and one from Barney Hutable put us 5- 0 up. Defensively we were just as good as we were going forward and we restricted Downeys contribution to back passes and picking up small bits, a credit to midfield and defence.
Second half Wanderers were now playing with the slope and created numerous opportunities, the cross bar and post doing its share once again but we did score another 3 with goals from James Withe, Jonny Oates for his hat trick and James Downey from the penalty spot

Managers comments:   A lesson for us to learn today, frustrations only hinder we have to work to achieve results no matter who the opposition

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean Record, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Martin Fitzsimons,  Elliot Crabtree,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Jamie Ball, Jonny Oates,  Barney Huxtable, James Withe,   Chris Stubbs,

Todays MOM:  The post a good candidate again but today it goes to Jonny Oates and Barney Huxtable.

Sunday 25th January 2009  Away to Betley League Cup 1/4 final
A game that on paper I would expect to win but you never can tell.  Tarporley started sprightly and soon notched with Dan Ball opening the  scoring, this was added to by Jonny oates, Matt Franks and four from Barney Huxtable to give us a 7-0 lead at half time.
Second half Wanderers were now playing uphill against a more focused Betley team we continued creating chances but only scored the one more goal this was from Eliot Crabtree, The Betley keeper did produce a string of good saves but the star of the half was the Betely goal post who denied the team no fewer than 6 times.

Managers comments:   A game we dominated from the beginning against a resilient Betley side

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Adam Humberstone, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Martin Fitzsimons, Barney Huxtable, Elliot Crabtree,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Jonny Oates,  James Withe,  Matt Franks, Jon Storey,

Todays MOM:  Betley goal post, stood strong no matter which side was selected or who shot.

Sunday 18th January 2009  Away to Birkenhead Youth County cup 1/4 final
A tough game with tough conditions, poor pitch and strong winds,  Wanderers had one moment of weakness in the opening minutes conceding a goal but an outstanding 43 minutes defending meant that Birkenhead failed to add any more.
Second half Wanderers attacking performance picked up and Barney Huxtable equilised within the opening 5 minutes.  For much of the remaining game it was one way but we failed to capatilise and get the second goal.  A break 5 minutes from time by Birkenhead was a bitter pill as th ball found its way into the net to give Birkenhead a 2-1 win.

Managers comments:   A great effort today against the conditions and very unlucky not to be in the semis hard luck boys

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Adam Humberstone, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Marin FitzsimonsChris Stubbs,  Barney Huxtable, Elliot Crabtree,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Jamie  Ball,  James Withe,  Matt Franks, Jon Storey,

Todays MOM:  Adam Humberstone just edging one or two other candidates.

Sunday 14th December 2008  Away to Macc Boys League
A tough game today against table toppers Macc Boys on a pitch that didnt suit Wanderers. Macc started strongly, Wanderers didn't bother and no surprise to find themselves a couple of silly goals behind. Macc scored a third from a great strike but again not put under pressure.  At 3-0 down we did start to try and work our way back into it and had the best two chances of the half.
Second half Wanderers performance picked up a bit but the formation limited our opportunities to a minimum, Macc were also limited to long shots.  One well struck free kick took a deflection to beat Downey all others were dealt with by the Wanderers keeper.

Managers comments:   A poor performance today against a good team, we had no bite or fire in our bellies today and still created some opportunities.  We need to step up from this one to take points in the league

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Adam Humberstone, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt), Chris Stubbs,  Barney Huxtable, Elliot Crabtree,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Jamie  Ball, Jonny Oates, James Withe,  Matt Franks, Jon Storey,

Todays MOM:  Bryan Wright just edging James Downey

Sunday 30th November 2008  Away to Winnington Avenue County Cup
Healthy squad reasonable pitch but a very cold day and an early start.  The combination didn't fit well for Wanderers who started very slowly against a team that wasn't used to loosing and still undefeated this season.  Winnington started well and Wanderers were forced to defend and dig deep in midfield.  Our cause wasn't helped when we lost Chris Stubbs after 25 minutes following a bad tackle. Despite defending resolutely our defence was breached when Winnington were awarded a penalty for hand ball.  This was scored and we found ourselves 1-0 down.  This goal was our wake up call and we started to show what we could do and created a few opportunities ourselves.
Second half Wanderers performance picked up a bit and we began to create gaps in the Winnington defence, increased pressure meant more corners and with 15 minutes to go one of these corners dropped to Jamie Ball who finished in style t put the game all square.  Wanderers were now definitely dominating the game and opening up Winnington at will.  Another chance dropped to Jamie B who was fouled by the keeper, a definite foul but perhaps a lucky penalty was awarded, this was duly dispatched by Scott Armstrong.  At 2-1 up and under 10 to play the game looked to be over but the ref had other ideas and awarded Winnington there second penalty for which parents and players alike still don't understand why.  Winnington scored to set up an exiting last 5 minutes.  Wanderers went closest but the full time score was 2-2.
Moving into extra time that according to the rues should have been 10 minutes each way the ref of the day insisted it was 15 minutes each way.  During the 1st period it was Tarporley who were the stronger and it was Jamie Ball who scored again to put us back in front again.  Winnington were unable to create anything during the period as Wanderers dominated.  In the second period Winnington did get back into the game and made our defence work hard, but the best chance did go to Tarporley.  Wanderers managed to weather the storm finishing 3-2 in there favour and booking a place in the last 8 of the County Cup, the furthest a Tarporley Wanderers side  has progressed in a County Competition

Managers comments:   A great result today against good opposition, whilst we didn't perform at our best our performance was very determined and we were required to work hard, a real professional performance without firing on all cylinders, we suck at our task and ground out the result well done boys

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean. Record, Bryan Wright, Adam Williams (capt),  M. Fitzsimons,  Barney Huxtable, Chris Stubbs,  Scott. Armstrong,  Dan Ball, Jamie. Ball, James Withe,  Elliot Crabtree, Jon Storey,

Todays MOM:  Shared affair today Bryan Wright and Scott Armstrong

Sunday 16th November 2008  Home to Cheshire Blades Eagles League
Back to 14 fit players today, weather was kind but pitch difficult.  We started indifferently and struggled with the distance between midfield and the forwards playing on one side and long balls.  However despite this we were creating chances on on 25 minutes we made the breakthrough when Jonny Oates netted his first of the day, 5 minutes later he added a second. Matt Franks added a third with his 1st touch of the day, Half time 3-0 to Wanderers
Second half a very resilient Eagles team showed they meant business and were limiting our opportunities and making it difficult for our defenders, it was Jonny Oates once again who settled us down with his third and best goal of the day.  James Withe also did his bit and netted twice to make it 6 for Wanderers.  The other end was not without incident though, a series of last ditch tackles and two fantastic saves kept Eagles away

Managers comments:   A good result today but we have to realise how close the line is, a couple of goals for Eagles at the right time would have put a whole different shape to the game and what was a comfortable victory could easily have been soured

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean. Record, Bryan Wright, Chris Stubbs, M. Fitzsimons,  Barney Huxtable , Elliot Crabtree, Scott. Armstrong (capt),  Dan Ball, Jamie. Ball, Jonny Oates , Jon Storey,  James Withe, Matt Franks

Todays MOM:  Shared affair today Chris Stubbs and Jonny Oates

Sunday 9th November 2008  Away to Alsager Town U18 District Cup
Today we went one better with the squad and had 15 players available.  Tarporley started well against a big Alsager side that played quite direct football.  It was Tarporley who took the lead when Jamie Ball pounced on a through ball and finished in style.  This upset the rhythm of Alsager  and we had a few half opportunities to increase the lead. I t was however Alsager that benefited from the weather and conditions to level following a long ball.  Alsager increased there lead from a wind assisted looped header to go in at half time 2-1 up.
Second half Wanderers found themselves  further behind but we were not giving this up so easy and when a ball was delivered back into the box from the bye line it was James Withe who met it and put the score to -3-2.  Wanderers were now fired up and the third came from Matt Franks and this is how the 90 minutes ended.
Extra time saw Alsager take the lead again but Wanderers replied within the minute with Jonny Oates first goal of the campaign.  Moving into the dying minutes of the 1st half Alsager were awarded a free kick where our keeper was held and the ball found the net.  In the second half it was end to end with Tarporley hitting the side netting and being denied a penalty from a Barney Huxtable free kick.  Alsager also had opportunities but none were converted final score 5-4 in favour of Alsager

Managers comments:   A terrific battle today from a team that showed it had guts and a determination to get  result.  As a manager I can ask for no more well done boys

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean. Record, Bryan Wright, Chris Stubbs, M. Fitzsimons,  Barney Huxtable , Elliot Crabtree, Scott. Armstrong (capt),  Dan Ball, Jamie. Ball, Jonny Oates , Adam Humberstone,  James Withe, Matt Franks

Todays MOM:  Despite some great individual efforts I have to give this weeks to the whole team  well done all

Sunday 2nd November 2008  Away to Cheshire Blades County Cup
The first time this season we had an opportunity to play 3 subs.  Tarporley started well and were restricting Blades to long shots which Downey was dealing with well.  It looked as though it would be Wanderers who would make the breakthrough when Elliot Crabtree got on the end of a good piece of play starting with Fitzy on the left side, via both Jamie and Dan Ball but he was denied by the bar.  It was Blades who opened up the scoring against the run of play from a corner.  Wanderers stuck at there job and slowly created better and better chances and finally we weer rewarded when Dan Ball got on the end of a cross to level the score just before half time .
Second half Wanderers found themselves  in charge from early on when Jamie Ball pounced on to the end of Dan ball through ball to put us in front, our lead was added to by Dan and a fourth was provided by Elliot Crabtree direct from a corner.  Blades were very strong in the last 10 minutes and pegged us back in our own half making it difficult for our defenders but we did manage to hold on thanks to some good saves and last ditch tackle to see the game out 4-1 in our favour.

Managers comments:   A good performance today and our quality shows when we are in control of ourselves.  Some great individual performance today, Downey in control and talking, Fitzy, Bryan in control at the back, Scotty aand Elliot running the middle and Dan and Jamie working hard and effectivey for the team

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean. Record, Bryan Wright, Chris Stubbs, M. Fitzsimons,  Matt Franks, Elliot Crabtree, Scott. Armstrong (capt),  Dan Ball, Jamie. Ball,  Barney Huxtable, Adam Humberstone, Jonny Storey, James Withe

Todays MOM:  Elliot Crabtree, just outdoing a superb Scott Armstrong performance

Sunday 26th October 2008  Home to Holmes chapel Hurricanes League
Still a restricted squad but better than recent week, today's opposition were inform and well in to their season.  Hurricanes came out of the blocks well and were quickly in front, they extended there lead on 20 minutes but Tarporley weren't done yet and Dan Ball pulled one back before half time.
Second half Wanderers found themselves  goals behind again but were still in the game.  A well placed penalty and a second for Dan ball put the score level.  We were undone in the last five minutes when Hurricanes sneaked one home and a well hit shot.

Managers comments:   A good representation in terms of football but we fell back into the old trap of getting on each others backs, happy to blame anyone but ourselves.  This has to stop or our progress will be slow

TODAYS SQUAD
James Downey, Sean. Record, Bryan Wright, Chris Stubbs, M. Fitzsimons, Barney Huxtable, Matt Franks, Scott. Armstrong (capt),  Dan Ball, Jamie. Ball,  Jonny. Oates, Elliot Crabtree

Todays MOM:  Bryan Wright, good work rate and always in control

Sunday 19th October 2008  Away to Alsager Town (Friendly)
Wanderers again limited due to injury and district duty, but in a much better place then last week.  Alsager came out all guns blazing pressing down the left hand side with a second runner through the middle.  As  a whole Wanderers were coping but on the back foot then Alsager opened there account.  Wanderers were not for giving this one up and a well timed run from Jamie Ball put us all square,  Alsager put themselves back in front before half time.
Second half Wanderers scored one of the finest goals amateur football will see, the move started on the edge of our own box and what followed was a sequence of 10 to 15 one/two touch passes playing through the whole length of the pitch  to a one touch cross that was met sweet by Dan Ball to level the score for a second time.  Tarporley then took the lead from Dan Ball free kick that was met by Scott A.  It was now Alsagerthat chased the game and managed to level following a great save from Downey but Wanderers were not being outdone today and a flick from Jonny Oates was pounced on by Jamie Ball for his second of the day.  Some resolute defending and a few good save from our in form keeper kept Alsager at bay for Wanderers to see the game out 4-3.

Managers comments:   A pleasure to manage the team today guts technique and work rate meant we came away with a victory that we could easily have given up a truly great display well done boys

TODAYS SQUAD
J Downey, S. Record, Bryan Wright, A. Humberstone, M. Fitzsimons, J. Storey, J. Withe, S. Armstrong (capt),  D Ball, J. Ball,  J. Oates, M. Franks

Todays MOM:  Adam Humberstone, terrific display

Sunday 12th October 2008  Away to Cheshire Blades Nantwich League
Wanderers had a stretched side today, striker on district duty, captain and center half injured, center mid on a geography field trip and the only other recognised defender away with family. But this group would not be detered and started the game the brighter of the two sides and were well worthy of taking the lead from a Dan Ball strike.  Blades equilised from a dubious penalty and later in the half found themselves in front from a deflected interception.
Second half it was Wanderers clearly in charge creating plenty of chances but struggling to find the net.  We did level the score when Scot A found some space in the Blades area.  We were then denied by the bar, post goal line clearances and a multitude of scrabbled clearances but could add no more.  Completely against the run of play Blades took the lead pouncing onto a short back pass.  Despite total dominance in the game we came away with nothing going down 3-2 on the day.

Managers comments:   A rare occasion when as manager you can be proud of your team and have lost. Our stretched side outplayed, out tackled had more possesion, more flare and more imagination coming second only on goals.  Some more good performances today, Chris Adapting well at the back along side Fitzy, Scott A dominant in midfield and a good work rate from Elliot C and Dan Ball.  Jamie B up front was not rewarded for his efforts on this day but if we continue to create this many opportunities then one day the result will be big in our favour

TODAYS SQUAD
J Downey, S. Record, Bryan Wright, C. Stubbs, M. Fitzsimons, J. Storey, E. Crabtree, S. Armstrong (capt),  D Ball,  J. Withe, J. Ball,  A. Williams

Todays MOM:  James Downey, commanded his area and quick out to meet long balls

Sunday 28th September 2008  Away to Willaston White Star FC League
Wanderers finally kicked off there season and soon found themselves on the back foot.  White Star had come out of the blocks quickly and looked as though they meant business.  Wanderers were defending well and limiting Willaston opportunities despite there pressure. As the game developed White star still had the edge of the 1st half but Tarporley were finding a few chinks in there Armour and created a couple of reasonable opportunities from the right hand side.
Second half it was Wanderers who took charge and were creating the better of the chances and did find the net only to have it ruled offside.  It was White Star who opened the scoring and in such a tight game may well have thought they had done enough.  Tarporley had the bit between their teath today and were not giving this one up, a period of prolonged pressure resulted in a handball in the box and a penalty to Tarporley.  Scott Armstrong converted from the spot t open his and Tarporley's account for the season.  Final score 1-1.

Managers comments:   A very fast and even game, not a lot between these two sides but some quality performances for us to build on.  We had the usual quality performances from Fitzy, Ad Williams and Sean at the back and a great battling performance from Scott Armstrong in the middle, tireless work from Jamie Ball upfront.  Injuries to Brian Wright and Jonny Storey saw us introduce Adam Humberstone and Dan Ball both who produced top class performances.

TODAYS SQUAD
J Downey, S. Record, A. WIlliams (Capt) Bryan Wright, M. Fitzsimons, E. Crabtree, S. Armstrong, C. Stubbs, M. Franks, J. Withe, J. Ball, J. Storey, A. Humberstone, D. Ball

Todays MOM:  Matt Franks, really back to his very best
