27/04/08: Nantwich
Town Diablos 0 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3
A much closer game than the previous matches against
the Diablos, but Tarporley ended comfortable winners. Tarporley opened
the scoring through Mat Sheen who turned in a good pass from Stevie
Pover. Continued Tarporley pressure paid off when the Diablos
defence were unable to keep out a Matt Sheen cross which was turned
into their own net by a Diablos player with Jack Craven waiting to
score. Jack Craven constantly troubled the Diablos defence with
good runs and crosses from the right wing and the pressure
eventually paid off as Matt Sheen scored a second turning in a
good cross from Jack. When the Diablos did attack Tom McAndrew
and Ben Lloyd stood firm at the back restricting the Diablos
to long range efforts. Tarporley created several more good
chances through the second half but were unable to add to the score.

Wanderers U11s 5 v Stapeley FC 2
Tarporley continued their good run of form with a
convincing win over Stapeley, although not without a few close calls.
Tarporley started very brightly and scored two early goals, one from
Matt Sheen from an acute angle and a second from Stevie Pover
following a good passing move. Tarporley then sat back and
allowed Stapeley back into the game. Following a period of
sustained pressure Stapeley won a corner which was diverted past
Oliver Tyler as Terry Rowlands tried to clear. In the second
half Tarporley started to assert themselves again and Stevie Pover
scored a second following a flowing passing move when Ben Lloyd picked
up the ball just inside the Stapeley half, found Jack Craven with a
good pass who immediately set Stevie away to score. Terry Rowlands
quickly added a forth cleverly turning in a corner from Toby Clark.
Stapeley again came back at Tarporley and forced three good saves from
Oliver Tyler in very quick succession. George Gresty sealed the
game for Tarporley with a great individual goal, picking up the ball
on the half way line he outpaced several Stapeley players to coolly
slot the ball past the goalkeeper.

20/04/08: Knights
0 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3
Tarporley put in a good solid performance to beat the
Knights. An early goal from Matt Sheen settled the side. The
team played plenty of good passing football, creating several chances
and Stevie Pover added a second just before halftime from a well
worked passing move. With the wind behind them the Knights
pressed strongly in the second half but Ben Lloyd, Toby
Clark and Tom McAndrew made a series of good interceptions and
clearances to deny the Knights, and when they did get shots on
target Oliver Tyler was in good form. Tarporley started to assert
themselves again through the half and Stevie added a third goal to
make the game safe. Tarporley, prompted by Terry Rowlands, created
several more good chances but were unable to add to the score.

crucial interceptions and tackles.

Wanderers U11s 3 v Cheshire Blades 0
The match against the Blades saw the welcome return of
Matt Sheen to the squad following several weeks absence with a broken
arm. Tarporley started strongly and Matt Sheen was denied
by a brave one-on-one save from the Blades goalkeeper. A
well taken corner to the far post by Toby Clark found Matt Sheen who
headed home strongly to give Tarporley the lead.
Tarporley scored a second when Stevie Pover broke away to coolly slot
the ball past the goalkeeper. Tarporley continued to press in
the second half and another well taken corner by Toby Clark cleared
the goal keeper only to rebound off the far post and Ashley Lowe was
denied by the goalkeeper as he tried to force the ball over the line.
Matt Sheen added a second goal before the end to cap a great come-back
display.

13/04/08: Crewe
FC 5 V Tarporley Wanderers U11s 1
Tarporley crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season against Crewe
FC. Crewe started very strongly scoring 2 early goals from
corners. Tarporley struggled on a very heavy pitch and were
unable to get their usual passing game going. The score remained
2-0 at half time, and with the wind behind them Tarporley were able to
exert more pressure on Crewe, however they were unable to convert the
pressure into goals. As Tarporley pressed forward looking to
score they were caught on the break and Crewe FC were able to add to
their score. Tarporley continued to create chances but only
managed to convert one when Stevie Pover scored a very good individual
goal to maintain Tarporley's record of having scored in every game
this season.

Wanderers U11s 1 v Stapeley Corinthians 2
As expected Stapeley proved a very strong team, dominating possession
and keeping Tarporley under pressure. Oliver Tyler in goal was
in great form making a series of fine saves and one-on-one stops to
deny Stapeley. Against the run of play Tarporley broke away and a
great passing move between Stevie Pover and Jack Craven ended with
Stevie slotting the ball home to give Tarporley a half time
lead. Stapeley continued to press in the second half, scoring
from a corner when Tarporley failed to pick up the Stapeley
forwards. As the game went on it looked as if Tarporley
might hold out for a draw but an unfortunate deflection saw a Stapely
shot spin past Oliver to give Stapeley the win.

Wanderers U11s 3 v MG Juniorsr U11s 2
With two key players missing the remainder of the squad put in a
really good performance to beat MG Juniors. Tarporley opened the
scoring in the first couple of minutes with a well worked goal.
Jack Craven produced an excellent cross from the right wing which
Terry Rowlands coolly slotted home. Mg Juniors hit back with a
brilliant goal from their centre forward who hit a great shot
from well outside of the area, over the Tarporley goalkeeper and just
under the bar. Tarporley hit back quickly with another
excellent goal by Terry who hammered the ball home from an acute
angle, firing into the top corner. Just before half time
Tarporley scored a third goal when Jack Craven scored a well
taken goal following a very good passing movement by Tarporley.
Playing against the wind in the second half Tarporley found the going
tougher but still managed to create several good chances but were
denied by a series of excellent saves by the MG goalkeeper. With
five minutes left to play MG scored a second goal on the break to
set up a tense finish. Tarporley managed to hang on for a
deserved win.

half time. With the wind behind them in the second half
Tarporley pressed continuously, and despite creating several good
chances were unable to score until just before the end when Stevie
Pover scored a good solo goal, beating several Betley players before
slotting the ball home. In the remaining few minutes Tarporley
continued to create openings but could not find the winnerl.

well with Matt Sheen scoring a great goal from an acute angle.
Stevie Pover added a second from a corner by Toby Clark and Oliver
Tyler denied Alsager with a good one-on-one save. The game was then
spoiled by a very unfortunately incident wherein Tarporley's top
scorer, Matt Sheen, fell awkwardly when tackled and broke his arm.
Both teams decided to play on as Matt was taken to hospital and the
game finished 3 - 1 with Stevie scoring Tarporley's third goal.

24/02/08: Tarporley
Wanderers U11s 1 v AFC Redstar U11s 1
On a very wet and windy day Tarporley
struggled to find any form in the first half. AFC closed
Tarporley down very effectively and with several pacey players in
their team they caused constant problems for Tarporley. AFC
deservedly took the lead in the first half and only several good saves
by Oliver Tyler kept the deficit to one. In the second half,
with the wind behind them, Tarporley started to play their usual game
with several very good passing moves opening up the AFC defence.
However, the AFC goalkeeper was also in good form making several good
saves. Despite overwhelming territorial advantage Tarporley were
unable to create many clear cut chances and at times it looked as if
they might get caught by AFC on the break. With just a couple of
minutes left Tarporley finally managed to break down the AFC defence
with Terry Rowlands showing very good composure to side foot the ball
past the AFC goalkeeper. Tarporley continued to press in the final
minutes but were unable to find a winner.

U11s started 2008 with another good win. On a very windy day
Tarporley kept the ball on the floor and excellent forward play from
Matt Sheen on the left wing and Stevie Pover in the centre caused
constant problems for the Stapeley defence. Two goals from
Stevie and one from Matt gave the team a well deserved half time lead.
Stapeley proved a much sterner test in the second half and threatened
the Tarporley defence on several occasions but the defence held firm.
Terry Rowland's struck a great shot from the edge of the area which
came back off the cross bar to Jack Craven whose shot was

clearance from Tom McAndrew prevented the match from being over by
half time. In the second half Stapeley scored an early goal to
lead 2 - 0 but Tarporley showed great spirit and fought their way back
into the match with a goal half way through the half from Stevie Pover,

highlight of the match was a goal straight from the start.
Tarporley kicked off and following half dozen passes between the
forwards and midfielders the ball finished in the back of the
Wistaston net without any of the Wistaston players touching the
ball. Tarporley then switched off allowing Wistaston back into
the match. Immediately after half time Wistaston levelled the
scores and only several excellent saves from Oliver Tyler prevented
Wistaston from taking the lead. Tarporley then responded with
goals from Matt Sheen and Stevie Pover to make the game safe and

The
final score line flattered Tarporley to a certain extent.
Although the team went in 2 – 0 at half time the match was
very hard fought. Wistaston had several very quick players who put our
defence under pressure on many occasions and a goal from
Wistaston immediately after the start of the second half brought them
back into the game. Tarporley
responded with an excellent goal from Stevie Pover who showed great
composure to put a cross from Matt Sheen past the Wistaston goal
keeper. Tarporley
continued to attack and constant pressure on the Wistaston defence
resulted in two penalties. These
were scored with great assurance by Terry Rowland who struck the ball
hard into the roof of the net on both occasions. An own goal from
Wistaston completed the scoring.

very good all round performance from the team. The team showed good

half lead. There were further goals from Stevie (2) and Terry

Crewe FC took the lead when Oliver Tyler was unable to hold on to

excellent result against top of the table Stapeley Corinthians.
Tarporley started the match in good style with the majority of the
possession during the first 10 minutes. Stapeley then came into
the match strongly and pressured the Tarporley defence for the
remainder of the half. However, the best chance of the first half fell
to George Gresty who hit a great shot from outside of the box forcing
the Stapeley goalkeeper to make a very good save, tipping the ball on
to the bar and out for a corner. The second half saw continued
Stapeley pressure. The Tarporley plan to catch them on the break, using
the pace of Matt Sheen and Stevie Pover was, however, causing Stapeley
problems. Matt broke free only to see his shot come back off the
bar and a great run and centre from Matt was hit just over the bar by
Stevie. Tarporley finally took the lead when Stevie ran over half the
length of the pitch, rounded the goal keeper and scored from an acute
angle. Stapeley pressed strongly for an equaliser in the
remaining few minutes and only a brilliant one-on-one save from Oliver
Tyler prevented Stapeley from equalising.
