27/04/08: Nantwich Town Diablos 0 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3

A much closer game than the previous matches against the Diablos, but Tarporley ended comfortable winners. Tarporley opened the scoring through Mat Sheen who turned in a good pass from Stevie Pover. Continued Tarporley pressure paid off when the Diablos defence were unable to keep out a Matt Sheen cross which was turned into their own net by a Diablos player with Jack Craven waiting to score.  Jack Craven constantly troubled the Diablos defence with good runs and crosses from the right wing and the pressure eventually paid off as Matt Sheen scored a second turning in a good cross from Jack.  When the Diablos did attack Tom McAndrew and Ben Lloyd stood firm at the back restricting the Diablos to long range efforts.  Tarporley created several more good chances through the second half but were unable to add to the score.
.
MOM:  Jack Craven:  A constant threat to the Diablos on the right wing.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2. Opps OG 1

24/04/08: Tarporley Wanderers  U11s 5 v Stapeley FC 2

Tarporley continued their good run of form with a convincing win over Stapeley, although not without a few close calls.  Tarporley started very brightly and scored two early goals, one from Matt Sheen from an acute angle and a second from Stevie Pover following a good passing move.  Tarporley then sat back and allowed Stapeley back into the game.  Following a period of sustained pressure Stapeley won a corner which was diverted past Oliver Tyler as Terry Rowlands tried to clear.  In the second half Tarporley started to assert themselves again and Stevie Pover scored a second following a flowing passing move when Ben Lloyd picked up the ball just inside the Stapeley half, found Jack Craven with a good pass who immediately set Stevie away to score. Terry Rowlands quickly added a forth cleverly turning in a corner from Toby Clark.  Stapeley again came back at Tarporley and forced three good saves from Oliver Tyler in very quick succession.  George Gresty sealed the game for Tarporley with a great individual goal, picking up the ball on the half way line he outpaced several Stapeley players to coolly slot the ball past the goalkeeper.
.
MOM:  George Gresty: Hard working mid-field display capped by a great individual goal.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, M Sheen 1, T Rowlands 1, G Gresty 1

20/04/08: Knights 0 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3

Tarporley put in a good solid performance to beat the Knights. An early goal from Matt Sheen settled the side.  The team played plenty of good passing football, creating several chances and Stevie Pover added a second just before halftime from a well worked passing move.  With the wind behind them the Knights pressed strongly in the second half but Ben Lloyd, Toby Clark and Tom McAndrew made a series of good interceptions and clearances to deny the Knights, and when they did get shots on target Oliver Tyler was in good form. Tarporley started to assert themselves again through the half and Stevie added a third goal to make the game safe.  Tarporley, prompted by Terry Rowlands, created several more good chances but were unable to add to the score.
.
MOM:  Ben Lloyd, a strong defensive performance with several crucial interceptions and tackles.

Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, M Sheen 1

16/04/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3 v Cheshire Blades 0

The match against the Blades saw the welcome return of Matt Sheen to the squad following several weeks absence with a broken arm.  Tarporley started strongly and Matt Sheen was denied by a brave one-on-one save from the Blades goalkeeper.  A well taken corner to the far post by Toby Clark found Matt Sheen who headed home strongly to give Tarporley the lead.  Tarporley scored a second when Stevie Pover broke away to coolly slot the ball past the goalkeeper.  Tarporley continued to press in the second half and another well taken corner by Toby Clark cleared the goal keeper only to rebound off the far post and Ashley Lowe was denied by the goalkeeper as he tried to force the ball over the line.  Matt Sheen added a second goal before the end to cap a great come-back display.
.
MOM: M Sheen: Two goals and a great all-round display.
.
Goal Scorers: Matt Sheen 2, S Pover

13/04/08: Crewe FC 5 V Tarporley Wanderers U11s 1

Tarporley crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season against Crewe FC.  Crewe started very strongly scoring 2 early goals from corners.  Tarporley struggled on a very heavy pitch and were unable to get their usual passing game going.  The score remained  2-0 at half time, and with the wind behind them Tarporley were able to exert more pressure on Crewe, however they were unable to convert the pressure into goals.  As Tarporley pressed forward looking to score they were caught on the break and Crewe FC were able to add to their score.  Tarporley continued to create chances but only managed to convert one when Stevie Pover scored a very good individual goal to maintain Tarporley's record of having scored in every game this season.
.
MOM: George Gresty: Captain for the day and a real captains display with non-stop running throughout the match.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover

06/04/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 1 v Stapeley Corinthians 2

As expected Stapeley proved a very strong team, dominating possession and keeping Tarporley under pressure.  Oliver Tyler in goal was in great form making a series of fine saves and one-on-one stops to deny Stapeley. Against the run of play Tarporley broke away and a great passing move between Stevie Pover and Jack Craven ended with Stevie slotting the ball home to give Tarporley a half time lead.  Stapeley continued to press in the second half, scoring from a corner when Tarporley failed to pick up the Stapeley forwards.   As the game went on it looked as if Tarporley might hold out for a draw but an unfortunate deflection saw a Stapely shot spin past Oliver to give Stapeley the win.
.
MOM: Oliver Tyler: Another outstanding display with many fine saves.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover

16/03/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3  v  MG Juniorsr U11s  2

With two key players missing the remainder of the squad put in a really good performance to beat MG Juniors.  Tarporley opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes with a well worked goal.  Jack Craven produced an excellent cross from the right wing which Terry Rowlands coolly slotted home.  Mg Juniors hit back with a brilliant goal from their centre forward who hit a great shot from well outside of the area, over the Tarporley goalkeeper and just under the bar.  Tarporley hit back quickly with another excellent goal by Terry who hammered the ball home from an acute angle, firing into the top corner.  Just before half time Tarporley scored a third goal when Jack Craven scored a well taken goal following a very good passing movement by Tarporley.
Playing against the wind in the second half Tarporley found the going tougher but still managed to create several good chances but were denied by a series of excellent saves by the MG goalkeeper.  With five minutes left to play MG scored a second goal on the break to set up a tense finish. Tarporley managed to hang on for a deserved win.
.
MOM: George Gresty:  Tireless running, particularly in the second half, to support both the attack and the defence.
.
Goal Scorers: T Rowlands 2, J Craven 1

09/03/08: Betley FC 1 V Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3

In a close first half Betley edged the game to lead 1-0 at half time.  With the wind behind them in the second half Tarporley pressed continuously, and despite creating several good chances were unable to score until just before the end when Stevie Pover scored a good solo goal, beating several Betley players before slotting the ball home.  In the remaining few minutes Tarporley continued to create openings but could not find the winnerl.
.
MOM: S Pover: Great goal and a constant threat to the Betley defence.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover

02/03/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3  v  Alsager Panthers U11s  1

Having lost their only game of the season to Alsager Panthers Tarporley were keen to win the return match.  The match started well with Matt Sheen scoring a great goal from an acute angle.  Stevie Pover added a second from a corner by Toby Clark and Oliver Tyler denied Alsager with a good one-on-one save. The game was then spoiled by a very unfortunately incident wherein Tarporley's top scorer, Matt Sheen, fell awkwardly when tackled and broke his arm.  Both teams decided to play on as Matt was taken to hospital and the game finished 3 - 1 with Stevie scoring Tarporley's third goal.
.
MOM: M Sheen: Good goal and powerful display before being injured.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, M Sheen 1
.
24/02/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 1  v  AFC Redstar U11s  1

On a very wet and windy day Tarporley struggled to find any form in the first half.  AFC closed Tarporley down very effectively and with several pacey players in their team they caused constant problems for Tarporley.  AFC deservedly took the lead in the first half and only several good saves by Oliver Tyler kept the deficit to one.  In the second half, with the wind behind them, Tarporley started to play their usual game with several very good passing moves opening up the AFC defence. However, the AFC goalkeeper was also in good form making several good saves.  Despite overwhelming territorial advantage Tarporley were unable to create many clear cut chances and at times it looked as if they might  get caught by AFC on the break. With just a couple of minutes left Tarporley finally managed to break down the AFC defence with Terry Rowlands showing very good composure to side foot the ball past the AFC goalkeeper. Tarporley continued to press in the final minutes but were unable to find a winner.
.
MOM: Terry Rowlands:  Another very strong performance from Terry capped by a well taken goal.
.
Goal Scorers: T Rowlands

10/02/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s  4 v Cheshire Blades 0
.
A game that was comfortably won by Tarporley.  The highlights were a great goal from distance by Stevie Pover, a fine one-on-one save from Oliver Tyler and a very composed performance by Terry Rowlands who controlled the midfield throughout the match causing the Blades midfield and defence constant problems.
.
MOM: Terry Rowlands: A very assured performance showing great skills.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2, S Pover 1, J Craven 1
.
03/02/08: Stapeley FC 0 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s  4
.
TW U11s started 2008 with another good win.  On a very windy day Tarporley kept the ball on the floor and excellent forward play from Matt Sheen on the left wing and Stevie Pover in the centre caused constant problems for the Stapeley defence.  Two goals from Stevie and one from Matt gave the team a well deserved half time lead.  Stapeley proved a much sterner test in the second half and threatened the Tarporley defence on several occasions but the defence held firm. Terry Rowland's struck a great shot from the edge of the area which came back off the cross bar to Jack Craven whose shot was brilliantly saved by the Stapeley goalkeeper. Stevie scored a third goal to complete his hat trick just before the end of the match.
.
MOM: Tom McAndrew: A great defensive display to deny Stapeley.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 3, M Sheen 1
.
27/01/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 3 v Stapeley Corinthians 4   AET and Pens
.
An excellent match that would have made a worthy final!  Stapely completely dominated the first half of the match to lead 1 - 0 at half time, and only several excellent saves by Oliver Tyler and a goal line clearance from Tom McAndrew prevented the match from being over by half time.  In the second half Stapeley scored an early goal to lead 2 - 0 but Tarporley showed great spirit and fought their way back into the match with a goal half way through the half from Stevie Pover, who then scored an equalizer in the final minute of the match to force extra time. Neither side could score in extra time and the match went to penalties.  Stapeley eventually won 2 - 1 on penalties after each side had taken 9 pens!.
.
MOM: Oliver Tyler for his excellent saves to keep the match alive.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, Matt Sheen 1 (pen)

06/01/08: Tarporley Wanderers U11s 4 v Wistaston United Lions U11s 1
.
The highlight of the match was a goal straight from the start.  Tarporley kicked off and following half dozen passes between the forwards and midfielders the ball finished in the back of the Wistaston net without any of the Wistaston players touching the ball.  Tarporley then switched off allowing Wistaston back into the match.  Immediately after half time Wistaston levelled the scores and only several excellent saves from Oliver Tyler prevented Wistaston from taking the lead.  Tarporley then responded with goals from Matt Sheen and Stevie Pover to make the game safe and could have finished further ahead as Terry Rowlands, Matt and Stevie all hit the woodwork.
.
MOM: Oliver Tyler for several excellent saves to prevent Wistaston from taking the lead.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, Matt Sheen 2

16/12/07: Wistaston United Cougars 1 v Tarporley Wanderers U11s  6
.
The final score line flattered Tarporley to a certain extent.  Although the team went in 2 – 0 at half time the match was very hard fought. Wistaston had several very quick players who put our defence under pressure on many occasions and a goal from Wistaston immediately after the start of the second half brought them back into the game.  Tarporley responded with an excellent goal from Stevie Pover who showed great composure to put a cross from Matt Sheen past the Wistaston goal keeper.  Tarporley continued to attack and constant pressure on the Wistaston defence resulted in two penalties.  These were scored with great assurance by Terry Rowland who struck the ball hard into the roof of the net on both occasions. An own goal from Wistaston completed the scoring.
.
MOM: Stevie Pover: A constant threat to the Wistaston defence and two very good goals.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, Terry Rowlands 2, Matt Sheen 1, OG 1

02/12/07: Tarporley Wanderers U11s  4 v Nantwich Town Diablos 0
.
Another very good all round performance from the team.  The match was expected to be closer than the previous cup match and that proved to be the case.  The defence learnt from the previous match and kept its discipline well to restrict Nantwich to few chances.  Their best chance came from a foul which resulted in a penalty.  The penalty was well struck but just wide of the post.  Goals from Stevie Pover (2), Matt Sheen and Jack Craven secured the win.
.
MOM: Matt Sheen: Terrific work rate both in attack and in supporting the defence.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 2, M Sheen 1, J Craven 1

25/11/07: Tarporley Wanderers U11s   v  Nantwich Town Diablos  (CUP)
.
Result: 7 - 2
.
very good all round performance from the team.  The team showed good movement and good passing,  moving the ball quickly from defence to attack.  The defence worked hard containing the Nantwich attack very effectively.  First half goals from George  Gresty (2), Matt Sheen and Stevie Pover gave the team a 4 - 0 first half lead.  There were further goals from Stevie (2) and Terry Rowlands in the second half to give the team a comfortable win. Tarporley were, however, as in their previous game, caught twice on the break whilst pressing for further goals - something we will have to work on in training.
.
MOM: Tom McAndrew: A difficult choice with so many good performances but given to Tom for excellent defending throughout the game with many good tackles and interceptions to deny Nantwich.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 3, G Gresty 2, M Sheen 1, T Rowlands 1.
.
18/11/07: Tarporley Wanderers U11s v Crewe FC U11s
.
Result: 2 - 4 (Tarporley win)
.
A very solid first half performance saw Tarporley take a 3 - 0 lead.  Two goals by Matt Sheen and one from Jack Craven reflected Tarporley's dominance.  However, as Tarporley pressed hard in the second half to increase their lead they were caught twice by quick counter attacks from the Knights that brought the score back to 3 - 2. Tarporley continued to attack and a third goal from Matt Sheen made the game safe. The Knights goal keeper made several outstanding saves to deny Matt Sheen, Stevie Pover, Terry Rowlands and Jack Craven
.
MOM: George Gresty: Another non-stop performance from George to set up many attacks and to help the defence when under pressure.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 3, J Craven.
.
11/11/07: Tarporley Wanderers U11s v Crewe FC U11s
.
Result: 2 - 2 Draw
.
A creditable result against one of the top teams in the division. Tarporley took an early lead through Matt Sheen and looked in control. However Crewe FC fought back and scored a well worked goal. Tarporley immediately went close again with a shot inches wide of the post. Crewe FC took the lead when Oliver Tyler was unable to hold on to a hard high shot and the ball just fell over the line. Tarporley continued to press with Matt Sheen again going close before eventually getting an equaliser.  Crewe FC pressed hard for a winner but the Tarporley defence stood firm.
.
MOM: Toby Clark: Very steady defending under pressure with several good headers to clear the ball from corners and timely tackles late in the match to deny Crewe FC.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2.
.
4/11/07: Away: Stapeley Corinthians.
.
Result: 0 - 1 Won
.
An excellent result against top of the table Stapeley Corinthians. Tarporley started the match in good style with the majority of the possession during the first 10 minutes.  Stapeley then came into the match strongly and pressured the Tarporley defence for the remainder of the half. However, the best chance of the first half fell to George Gresty who hit a great shot from outside of the box forcing the Stapeley goalkeeper to make a very good save, tipping the ball on to the bar and out for a corner. The second half saw continued Stapeley pressure. The Tarporley plan to catch them on the break, using the pace of Matt Sheen and Stevie Pover was, however, causing Stapeley problems.  Matt broke free only to see his shot come back off the bar and a great run and centre from Matt was hit just over the bar by Stevie. Tarporley finally took the lead when Stevie ran over half the length of the pitch, rounded the goal keeper and scored from an acute angle.  Stapeley pressed strongly for an equaliser in the remaining few minutes and only a brilliant one-on-one save from Oliver Tyler prevented Stapeley from equalising.
.
MOM: Oliver Tyler: Good keeping throughout the match and a match wining save at the end.
.
Goal Scorers: S Pover 1.
.
14/10/07: Away: MG Juniors Tarporley Wanderers U11s
.
Result: 7 - 0 Won
.
Another very solid performance from the U11s with good contributions from all of the team and five players on the score sheet.  Amongst the many good goals scored three stood out - a very powerful header from Matt Sheen, a well directed header from Terry Rowlands from an 'impossibly tight' angle and a very cool back heel from Jack Craven.  All of the defence worked hard throughout the match to keep another clean sheet with whilst MG Juniors did not threaten our goal too often OliverTyler stayed alert to produce a fine finger tip save in the second half to deny them a consolation goal.
.
MOM: Stevie Pover: A constant threat to the MG Juniors defence and a well taken goal.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2, Jack Craven 2, S Pover 1, George Gresty 1, Terry Rowlands 1.
.
07/10/07: Home: Tarporley Wanderers U11s v Betley FC
.
Result: 3 - 0 Won
.
The game against Betley saw another good all round team performance.  Tarporley took the lead early in the first half with a well taken goal from Stevie Pover. Tarporley continued to control most of the half with Matt Sheen adding a second goal. The second half saw Betley come back into the game with several shots on goal, all dealt with well by Oliver Tyler, including one great save to tip the ball over the bar to prevent Betley from scoring.  Shortly afterwards Matt Sheen collected a long ball and drew the goalkeeper before finding the net with a very well taken goal.  Tarporley then took control of the game forcing several good saves from the Betley goalkeeper.
.
MOM: Matt Sheen: Two well taken goals to kill off the game.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2, S Pover 1.
.
30/09/07: Away: Alsager Panthers v Tarporley Wanderers  U11s
.
.Result: 4 - 3 Lost
.
A game that got away!  Tarporley started the match in good style, dominating possession and producing several shots on goal but without scoring. However, during the latter part of the first half Alsager, with two strong skilful players up front, came into the game very strongly scoring three quick goals before half time.  The second half was almost one way traffic as Tarporley pressed hard, bringing the score back to 3 – 2, before Alsager scored again on the break. Tarporley continued to press scoring another goal - a great header by Terry Rowlands from a corner kick.  Tarporley continued to dominate and whilst there were plenty more attempts on goal we were unable to find the net again.
.
MOM: George Gresty: Worked very hard, particularly in the second half, to bring Tarporley back into the game.
.
Goal Scorers: G Gresty 1, J Craven 1, T Rowlands 1.
.
 23/09/07: Home: TW U11s v Brookfield Rangers
.
.Result: 5 - 0 Won
.
A good start to the season with a comfortable win over Brookfield Rangers. The whole team played well, working hard for each other, producing some very good passing moves to open up the Brookfield defence.  The defence produced a very solid display giving the Brookfield attack very few opportunities to shoot at goal.  Four players contributed goals: Matt Sheen grabbed a couple and George Gresty, Terry Rowlands and Ashley Lowe chipped in with a goal apiece.  The score could have been even higher but for the woodwork.
.
MOM: Tom McAndrew.  Very solid defensive performance, breaking up numerous Brookfield attacks.
.
Goal Scorers: M Sheen 2, G Gresty 1, T Rowlands 1, A Lowe 1.
