In the list of those paying "the Leawne to be gathered yearly for the reparation of the Church of Swynnerton", undated in the PRs, "Thomas Hales xviiid", paying the second highest amount after "Anthony Fitzherbert gent xxd". JAMES HALES. Born [1635/45]. Christening not found. No suitable James Hales has been found in the Hales website. He may be the son of John Hales of Swynnerton, see above, but no proof has been found . It is unlikely that any more information on this family will come to light. There is a gap in the Swynnerton PRs from 1627-1646, which would have been the period when John"s children were christened. Bur 21 Jul 1694 (Swynnerton) "Jacobus Hales". No wills are listed for Hales in Swynnerton in the Staffordshire probate index. m 4 Sep 1665 (Wolstanton) HELEN POOL "James Hales & Helen Pool". (Some IGI records of wedding mention a Stephen Hales as a relative(? Brother of James?), but the only Stephens in these documents are in the Newcastle file and neither were alive in 1665 ) Bur 30 Jul 1710 (Swynnerton) "Ellen Hales vid de Swinnerton". children:

  1. ? JOHN HALES. Born [1670]. No proof that he was the son of James Hales, but this looks likely because of the connection with Swynnerton parish. There are major gaps in the Swynnerton PRs from 1663-1677. Died after 1728, burial not found. m 13 Jan 1699 (Edgmond, Shropshire) JANE BOSWELL "John Hales & Jane Boswell". Christening not found in Shropshire or Staffordshire records (except ref in IGI saying abt 1678 at Edgmond, Shrops).         4. ? MARY HALES. Born after 1824 (minor in 1845 marriage entry). Not in 1841 census with her presumed parents. Not found in the 1881 census although her husband is "married" in his entry. It is not certain that Mary was the daughter of James Hales of Yarnfield. The fact that there is no baptism for Mary recorded at Swynnerton RC chapel would indicate that she was not. However, it is not clear who her father "James Hales" recorded in her 1845 marriage entry could otherwise have been. m 2 Apr 1845 (Stone) CHARLES MILLS "Charles Mills x full bach cordwainer Stonefield s of John Mills & Mary Hales x minor sp Stonefield d James Hales wits William Mason x & Mary Smith x". Fathers" occupations not stated in the marriage entry. In 1881 census shoemaker at 8 Furlong, Wolstanton, married (although his wife is not in the census entry) aged 62 born at Stone. Children:
