My maternal great grandmother was Elizabeth (Betsy) Williams and came from Wales, possibly South Wales, into 'service' (maybe in the Bristol area), where (presumably) she met and married my great grandfather Henry Beard The family story is that she either came from a Public House called ' The Hole in the Wall' or from near to it. The is a family rhyme which goes:-
If you are in ...........
and go to the Hole in the Wall,
you'll get ...... for sixpence,
and ....... for nothing at all.
(it is probably 50 years since I heard it and my memory is letting me down.)
Census information variously gives her place of birth as South Wales or Abberavvon(?Aberavon?) or Glasbury
