The following is taken from a letter Mrs Joan Luria addressed to The Kennel Club, and sent to me for inclusion in the dossier I prepared in 2003. However, she has asked me to include it on this web site due to Cody appearing in pedigrees on both sides of the Atlantic.
Cody crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 15. Joan said that Cody’s daughter, Magic, followed on 21st April 2006, also at the age of 15. She had remained free of seizures, however her blood sample was also sent to the AHT. (Lionel Gribbon)
Ch/Am Ch Elve The Alchemist aka: Cody
DOB: 27th September 1988
I moved with my family from New York to Hawaii in 1975. We were accompanied by our first dog, a well bred Golden Retriever. After his release from Hawaii’s then compulsory 4 months quarantine, and our first couple of shows, my involvement in the sport of dogs was sealed. I became the Golden Retriever Club of Hawaii’s columnist/correspondent to the Golden Retriever Club of America News (a position I held for 16 years), and subsequently, president of the GRCH for 14 years. I imported 7 more Retrievers over the years and made up 13 champions.
In 1983, I purchased a 3 year old Norwich Terrier, which had been imported to Hawaii from the UK 2 years earlier. This dog was a group-winning, US nationally-ranked terrier, and was to become the first Norwich made up in Hawaii, as well as my first Norwich champion. Unfortunately this dog was epileptic. In the only litter he sired, before I acquired him, there were 3 epileptics. I never used him at stud. At that time I was a member of the Norwich & Norfolk Terrier Club (US) and the Norwich Terrier Club (UK).
