Welcome to Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society

Welcome

Situated in the heart of the North Yorkshire dales market town of Pateley Bridge, the Playhouse is the home of the Pateley Bridge Dramatic Society. The society, which has charity status, owns and runs the theatre.

The Playhouse provides an intimate setting for quality drama with all the facilities of a modern theatre. The auditorium has 73 seats around an apron stage with excellent visibility. It also has an induction loop system for people with an appropriate hearing aid.

Stained Glass Windows

The Society has been very fortunate to meet up with a talented Stained Glass Artist, named Evan Jones, who is sympathetic to our view of creating something special to enhance the Playhouse. Evan came out to Pateley Bridge to meet a few committee members, see the building and discuss ideas, in order to begin the task of designing and making Stained Glass windows depicting our “Theatre in the Dales”

These small colour plates, the first stage of the project, cannot do justice to the finished work. Evan told us, enthusiastically, how he had been completely drawn into background research of:- Theatrical Symbolism, i.e. the masks of comedy & tragedy, Theatre Tradition from Punch & Judy to Shakespeare, Poster Artwork for Carnival and Circus, and Bold Russian Paintings. The full size designs have much greater detail, and are able to give some perspective and depth, as well as luminosity of colour. There are also different textures in the glass. Cinderella’s shoe is in a lustre effect glass.

We have raised most of the money by inviting people to sponsor a piece of glass.
