I first started watching Doctor Who when I was so young that I don't properly recall what my first story was. The first story I have any real memory of was Kinda, and by the time I can clearly remember another story I was already a fan.
When Kinda scared the living daylights out of me, I was seven. When I watched the Doctor running through various BBC produced tunnels in Mindwarp, I was nine. Between those two memories, I had started spending most of my free time reading Doctor Who books, playing Doctor Who games and writing stories. I can't say with any certainty that Doctor Who inspired me to become a writer - those early stories were a mix of Star Wars, Back to the Future and Doctor Who - but I know that it caught my imagination back then and never really let go.
It took me a while to start writing fan fiction, mostly because I was growing up in something of a Doctor Who vacuum: none of my friends were interested in the program, and the only merchandise I could find were the Target novelisations. As soon as I found out that ordinary mortals could write Doctor Who stories, I threw myself into it. From there, I graduated to writing short stories for Doctor Who Magazine and then official licensed Doctor Who merchandise!
